well I am going for my third kit and I am not sure which way to go. I plan to buy a brand new engine for this model. I do have a 3w and like it but I hear a lot of people liking the DA. which one would you use....

more info! I like 3w and never run a DA. the 3w106 is supposed to have more puch, why whould you go with da? are you sponsored like gerret?

when I started out in large scale everyone around me runs DA so I saw no need to change. Asking these questions is like asking which is better monokote or ultracote. ITs all about personal preference. I would look to see what others around you are flying and go from there.

as much as I like Bobby, still waiting for the parts of my brand new 106 (tachometer) I know that this is not his fault. but if you forgot about their customer support which I agree it is a very important part of the deal. which engine would you go?

I am hopping that there is someone out there that runs both so i can get a better idea on what to do. I do not want to start a war her just some opinions based on actual experiences... just that.
I fly "alone" i live on an island in the northwest so my main interaction with other modelers is through chat rooms like this...

Which Island?

I've seen a 2.6 get hauled aroung really well with a DA-100. It'd be my choice when I eventually get one of these.

I don't know that one is better than the other. Just that I have never had any problems at all with my DA's and can vouch that their customer sevice is as good as I have come across as far as technical assistance goes. Mine always start easily, run flawlessly, and have never flamed out. also, the power is great. I have never run 3W's, but know the few guys at my field that do run them use the DA ignition module. Not sure why. My guess is that you will have good luck with whatever you choose. Good luck!!, cbk

there located in Arizona... I had ordered some Menz 18 x 8 props from them once and they were back ordered forever... i placed my order online instead of actually calling them and YET they still got the order through... when they did recieve them they emailed me and told me they were holding the last 2 Menz props for me if i wanted them... There great people and I won't hesitate to do business with them again.

I fly both because I couldn't make up my mind. When everything is working well they are very very close to equal. I have a new 3W 106 that I've heard good things about but haven't flown yet so we'll see. I can tell you this much from my experience. If I had to pick one that I can always count on it would be the DA. The 3W's aren't bad but they are more prone to some annoying little problems from time to time. If I was in a remote area I'd go with the DA.

The new 3w looks to have a REAL nice ignition system.... I think someone should review the two.

DA all the way-Much more reliable and bar none the best service in the model industry.Been running a DA150 for two seasons and has not missed a beat-never replaced a part.Nuff Said.

Anyone know for certain if the 3W will fit in the Composite Arf Extra. I read some posts earlier claiming the 3W is too long a motor and the firewall was spaced for a DA-100. What's the scoop?

I have an old 3W-100 that could use a fiberglass home if it fits.

The 106 will not fit from firewall to front of cowling is 6.5" my 106 mount to back plate 7.5". I am putting a ZDZ 120 in mine instead. Mark,

I have one with it. now if you are really, really, really picky then it would be a bit too long, about 1/3-1/2 of an inch. if you can tell me that you can see or tell the difference a few feet away well then I agree. it is a bit too long but not that much.

I've flown both, currently own both. Let me say that either one is an excellent engine.

The DA is very refined. I just bolted on the plane and flew it. No adjustments, it ran perfectly right out of the box, started up new just like I had been flying it for weeks. No debugging required.

The 3w ran out of the box but wasn't quite as near-perfect. It does seem to make a but more power. Weight is within 1 oz. of being exactly the same.

For practical things, the DA is easier to fit in a cowl, is shorter and not as wide. They use the same mounting pattern on the firewall.

Dave Johnson has been more helpful in finding headers that will fit. The 3w is $50 cheaper.

These are all really minor points. Both are good engines. The BME 102 is just as good and over a pound lighter, and it's inherently quieter as well.

If you want a choice, how heavy is your plane. If it's under 26 pounds, I'd use the BME. 26 to 28, I'd use DA, Over 28, I'd pick 3w.

Also the new BME 110 Xtreme looks real good.... now if it actually comes in like they say than it should be a hell of a motor

This plane is known to need nose weight , 3W 100 or DA 100 and you will be fine.
