I am contemplating purchasing a j-3 cub from hangar 9 or balsa usa. What is the difference between the j-3 cub and super cub?
I've read the posts about fuji engines and zenoah engines. It seems like the zenoah 26 is a pretty good engine. Is gas really the way to go? Does it pay off in the long run?

super cub has different cowl, mainly, as full size had a bigger engine. gas has been good to me- so far- and a lot cheaper to run! a guy at our field just got a new g-26, it runs great. it won't hover his h-9 edge 540, but it flies it all over the place, and hover is about the only thing it won't do. fugi is good, also, but after getting my g-62 powered stinger in the air, the zenoah made a believer outa me! it hovers that 17 pound thing at 1/3 throttle- on a 22-8!! and never misses a beat. also, zenoah has a long history of use. not that fuji is bad, though. saw one of those on a t.f. stinson a mo. ago, and it ran fine, too.

anyway, though, on a cub gas is hard to beat.

The J-3 had the engine cylinders stick out in the breeze , Super Cub had the engine completely enclosed inside the cowl . J-3 flown solo from rear seat, Super from front & also had flaps. I run 4 gas engines with no trouble what so ever, much more economical than glow.
