Pilot 30% Extra 260

Well taking the plunge into giant scale aerobatics.... just ordered a 30% Pilot Extra 260 with a DLE 55. It is actually for the kid as he is the 3D pilot in the family. Hopefully he will let me fly it some and I won't embarass myself!:)

You wont be disapointed. The Pilot 260 is an excellent choice for getting into giants and the DLE 55 is a great combo. I have the 87" Pilot 300 with a DL50 and I've never looked back.

Well I am on vacation now..... but my new Extra 260 came just before I departed.... I simply cannot believe the quality of the modern ARF.... as someone who has been building for over 40 years... I always felt my building was pretty darn good. I simply cannot do what all these modern arfs achieve for a very reasonable cost. I cannot wait to get home to put this plabe together.

Young people have no idea where modeling has been and how we have gotten to where we are today.

RE: Pilot 30% Extra 260

We finally finished the Pilot Extra 260... used Hitec HS-7954SH servos everywhere but the choke (old/new JR 517 analog) and throttle where I used a Hitec HS-7965MG, 1650 NIMH MA battery on the ignition and dual 6V 2150 MA NIMH to feed the receiver and servos and a Smartfly remote shutoff. The DLE 55 started easily and ran perfect with only a slight richening of the high needle. The shakedown flights went very well - the first flight it flew great with just a couple clicks of up trim needed to fly straight and level hands off. Spent most of the time just going fairly easy myself making sure everything was working correctly and still tight after each flight - but that plane sure does track well and have the power to climb! The kid had it doing rolling circles and hovering/torque rolling by the second flight (at altitude due to the new engine/plane).

I am very impressed at how well it flew right offf the table and cannot wait until next weekend to get some more flight time and start adding the flight mixes/adjusting the balance etc.

Yup I have both the 50cc Yak and 50cc SBach both with DLE's and love them both.

RE: Pilot 30% Extra 260

My son and I put the Extra through a good workout last weekend - about 45 minutes flight time much of it 3D (my son). I dumped the batteries and found I used 1335 MA of the flight packs (4300 MA) and 295 of the Ignition pack (1650 MA). I assume these are reasonable power usage levels considering the type plane, servos (HS7954SH) and flight mode, however, let me know if your opinion differs as I am trying to monitor useage and gauge safe flying times - this is the first plane like this for me and I have no prior experience. P.S. - switched to a VESS 22B prop - my kid from a 5 foot off the runway torque roll punched it and rocketed straight up out of sight!! That ism the kind of power I had in mind!!:D
