Default Aeroworks Extra 300 ,100cc

My friend wants to sell me his Extra 300 Aeroworks with a DLE-111. Anything to lookout for on the airframe as for as frame cracks etc.? Any flyers out there with advice on this model? Thanks.

No the yellow one in stronger. Just dial in 45 deg. elevator, dive it down from 300 ft and pull back abruptly. If it holds together, you da man

My son and I have been flying the AW Extra 300 100cc all last summer. We put over 350 flights on it including 5 IMAC contests. We are also running a DLE 111.

We have had no issues witht he combo. Worst things that have happened are lost 2 tail wheels due to flying in grass that caught the little snap ring and pulled it off, one cross brace in fuse came loose and the silver ultra coat came loose a little. The engine runs great. Never need to adjust the carb. Did have the reed valves wear out and had to replace them, about $20and 15 minutes I think. The plane still looks brand new. We just added smoke to it but have not flown it with the smoke yet.

We love the combo and I believe you would also.

Thanks Ralph. A lot of the guys at my club have them but just don`t fly them very much and use them just for IMAC. I aim to fly mine a lot, like a Sunday Flyer.Sounds like it has held up well for you.How did you know it was the reeds? What were the symtoms? Thanks.

It took us about 1/2 day to find out that the reed valves had gone bad. Next time it will only that about 10 minutes. Here's what happened:

Went to field to practice for an IMAC contest coming up in St Louis that week-end. First flight DLE 111 ran perfect. I can't remember if the engine died in the air or if we landed with it running. Anyway, when we tried to start it up for another practice flight it would not start. Just run the choke out and die.

We started trying to figure out what was wrong. Changed plugs, checked batteries, flipped prop until our arms were sore. Of course we fiddled with the needles also. Nothing made any difference.

Took it home and started checking tank and replacing fuel lines, filters, etc. Took carb off and disassembled and cleaned it. Put it all back together and still same problem.

Out of ideas I decided to remove the carb and see what was under the black plastic piece the carb is fastened to. It was the first time I had seen the reed bank. Pulled it out to look and noticed the ends of the reeds were chipped and broke off. We drove to Champaign, IL and bought a new reed bank from a friend and made it to the St Louis contest.

The next time the engine does not start normally the first thing I plan to do is check the reed bank. It only requires removing the 2 carb screws and lifting the reed bank out.

By the way a new DLE reed bank only cost about $25.00 from Tower Hobbies. We now will be carrying a spare with us at all times.

Hope this helps you if and when it happens. We had about 250 to 300 flights on the engine when the reeds went bad.

Thanks guys.he has about 60 flights on it.All Jr servos.Optic kill. All electronics. His asking $2,500, just add Receiver.Sounds about right?I have an extra cab F-150 with a bed top cover. 6ft bed.I haul my sundancer 50cc with now.It looks like the extra will fit,but with the tailgate down. Looks like when you move up with the big boys it`s time to find an enclosed trailer.
