Default Almost ready- 1/4 piper cub

Ok, so I am almost ready to fly my 100" hanger 9 piper cub 1/4 scale. Any last minute final things or checks that you recommend? I have invested a lot in this plane and want it to fly smoothly. Thanks in advance!

It is never a bad idea to have a buddy go over the plane after you have checked it . Charge and test receiver and tx batteries . Perform a range test. Check C.G again . Verifiy proper flight control directions and throws. Run taxi tests and recheck everything again before flying . I usually use the AMA safety check sheet for the maiden flight to help prevent overlooking anything .

Piper Cubs need a nice l-o-n-g take-off with a gentle climbout to avoid tip-stall. That was the hardest thing for me to remember, but ultimately my Piper taught me patience, rudder control, and smooth turns. I have somewhere between 300-400 flights now on my old H9 1/4 scale and love to fly it whenever the mood hits me.

I'll go along with Graham as well......don't horse her off the ground. And, if you have never flown a Cub before, I'd suggest you make your first take off from a nice grass strip rather than pavement (if possible). If she starts to pull off line on the takeoff roll don't be afraid to shut her down and start over. You've got to get used to contolling her with rudder on the ground.
Good luck! You'll love her.

If you are using metal gear servos be sure there is a little locktite on the screw threads. Letting another experienced modeler check it over is great advise. A couple of months ago one of our better pilots was preparing a new plane. Not trying to be too nosey I casually looked over his shoulder and saw some loose screws on his throttle servo. As he was getting ready to put the hatch on, I motioned toward the servo and asked him if he was going to fly it like that. He'd been looking inside that plane for quite awhile but just couldn't see the forest for the trees.

I really appreciate all of the advice on the maiden of a quarter scale cub as I have a sig quarter scale clipped wing that is almost ready as well. I have a OS 160 twin mounted on the nose of this bird and have read many great things about this engine and am looking forward to hearing her in the air. I have tried to follow the full scale picture pack on Hazel's cub as much as I could and have a question that I hope someone can help with. Where can I purchase a scale prop hub that will fit the os twin. I have a hub on the lock nut, but it sticks too far out and looks odd.

Yup! 'Looks thataway aright. Look real close @ mine; TE is hollowed out it seems. I could be wrong on that, but as I remember, th' flap fit right snugly in th' TE. Your way can't possibly hurt anything, tho'. 'Long as th' FUNCTION isn't changed...

frank99,
It looks like yuor hinges are not set deep enough in the flap. That would explain the trailing edge protrusioin and the leading edge would be higher and farther away from the wing trailing edge.
The hinges need to be repositioned.
