Default GIANT ASTRO HOG and MEL WHITLEYS SPORT 300 II

Has anyone built or have the plans for the GIANT ASTRO HOG and MEL WHITLEYS SPORT II by JERRY BATES PLANS. How is the construction and if you have built them how do they fly. Looking for something different to build for a 30cc gas engine

Plans are readily available from Jerry Bates. If you don't see them on the website, call him. I built the giant scale astro hog. Construction is fairly conventional although the ailerons are driven by servos in the fuse via short pushrods. I thought it was neat so I did mine per the plans. I put a US 41 in it, homemade fiberglass cowl and headrest (they are also available from Jerry). Finish is Randolph dope over uncertified lite aircraft fabric. I haven't flown it yet.

Carl,

Beautiful job on the Hog. It looks like a sleek Bower's Fly Baby.

What is the RTF weight ?

That is very sharp, Did you build per plans, looks like very little dihedral. Looking at putting a DLE-30 in for power. Can you tell me the dimension from the Firewall to the Prop, DLE needs like 6 1/4". What was the final weight, a one piece wing.
Again great job.

I never did weigh it so I can't tell you how it came out. I never weigh my planes. It is built fairly faithfully to the plans, dihedral is as shown on plans and the wing is indeed one piece. The dimension from the firewall to the back of the prop is 6 3/8". A Quadra 35 is drawn on the plans.

That just looks to sweet, ordered the plans today. Did you cut the parts yourself or did you have a short kit made and if so who did it.
Again very very nice

I cut out all the parts myself. I got a quote from a kit cutter and he wanted a fortune to do it. I think he said around $400. He also said it would take 4 months.

Cutting out a kit is no big deal. I like to cut up all the parts I need for a subassembly then put it together instead of cutting out the entire kit in one shot.
