Default Giant Model Products 100cc Geebee R3 racer build

Well here it is! The new 100cc Geebee R3 racer from Giant Model Products. Very well built airplane, the covering job is incredible! Everything that came with the kit is top notch. The decals are even cut from vinyl. I will be posting more pics and info as I build her. It will be a slow process as I am still recovering from my 35% Yak that I just finished...lol. Just couldn't pass this opportunity up.

Her are a few more pics. It wouldn't let me upload them all on one post. I put the cowl on my pillow as a reference to see just how big it is...lol. Also notice the split flaps in the first pic.

Gerry has got to get the fuselage fully sheeted[:@] It would create a really nice, smooth surface, and would drastically improve the looks of the airplane. Maybe we should tell him while he is in China

Hey Jimmy, I agree with you the fuse does need to be sheeted. When the light hits it just right you can see the hundreds of holes in the wood so it would help the looks of it a lot. I'm torn with what engine to use. Tryin to decide if I want to go with the DLE-111 which I have on my 35% Yak and runs fantastic or save and go with a Moki. If I go with a Moki then it will be well into next year before she flies. Don't know if I can wait that long. lol! I will decide here very soon.

Jose, I do have a pdf file of the manual that came with the kit but I must warn you its pretty helpless. Just a few pictures with one sentence underneath each picture saying "mount engine like picture" or "mount wing like picture"...lol. But send me your email and I will mail it to you. I have come the conclusion that since the manual is no help I will have to build a lot of this plane from my own personal knowledge. Which is no biggie...my 35% Yak came with no manual and I had to build her on my own and she's the best flying plane I own. Any questions that I can help you with just ask...I will do my best to answer them.

Hey Micheal, thanks for posting the pics The wow factor is up there and a Moki radial would boost it over the top Of course, lots of money and you may need to look at the Moki forum to see if you want the maintenance associated with the big radial!![:@] If you plan on flying this beauty a lot, I would stick with the DLE or DA100cc range. Great performers and low maintenance Anyway, the radial would sure sound good

We have to get Gerry on board with the fuse sheeting! I totally agree with you, its a beautiful model and the lack of a smooth fuse only cheapens the airplanes appearance, not to mention the light shinning through as you have mentioned[:@] Cant wait to see what he has done with the landing gear struts, those will be great.

Keep the thread going

Thanks Jimmy there will be a lot more pics to come as I work on it. The instructions that came with it are very helpless so I am building this one from experience and my own knowledge. It would make more sense to sheet the fuse because all of the wings and stabs are about 75% sheeted so why not the fuse??? I am excited too to see what the new struts are going to be like. The gentlemen I bought this geebee from is going to be getting a set for this one and his 50cc version that he is nearing completion. He will be maiden his probably weekend after next. He worked hard to get his geebee done so we could take it to Joe Nall this year.

I have been leaning toward the DLE-111 because like I said before I have one on my 35% Yak with a Vess 27C prop and even though that plane is set up for 3D it still hauls ass...lol. So I think with a little smaller diameter prop I could really get thing go like it's suppose to!!!

Jimmy,
I very much agree. Sheeting the fuse is a must especially for the 100 and 150 cc versions. We bought two 50cc models in Toledo and I have since sent one back to Gerry as there were many problems with it. The updates that Gerry has described since his trip tp China sound good and hopefully a new construction manual is in the works. I'll be very intersted in this build thread.

Thanks,
paul

Well I figured I would let everyone know that I have not got a lot done on the geebee over this weekend. Been in Valdosta GA over the weekend welcoming my sisters first born in to the world. And along with building my new shop for my RC addiction...lol and getting ready for Joe Nall next week left little room for building on the geebee. Plan on buying a lot of the electronic for the geebee at Joe Nall if they offer some pretty good deals at the vendor tents.

Hey Jimmy,
I was wondering how I was going to haul this thing in my trailer. That a fantastic design...I might have to use that idea

Its real easy to build Michael, just be sure to use PVC glue cause CA wont hold! And when you buy the pipe, be sure you buy the thicker walled PVC, its more sturdy Its all 1/2" stuff but 3/4" would work too. Be sure to get three metal clamps and screws to mount the rack to your trailer floor, or if you are hauling in a car or truck, just make the support legs longer to resist tipping. Glad I could help Forgot to add that the T on top is a 1/2X 3/4, depending on the size of the tube you use to go through the wing tube.

I'm going to get one of these. Can anybody tell me the width of the cowl inside? I could either run a DLE111 or thinking about a 3W-150 (and a high pitch prop). The 3W is 12-7/8" cap to cap.
