Default Need advice!

Hey guys, I am about to place an order from tower and want to know what you recommend. I want to use a dynatron starter to turn over a zenoah G-26. I figure I'd be better off avoiding using my 12v field box battery and just putting a lipo on the dynatron. it can handle 24v so I was thinking of finding a 6s pack for the starter. But how do I mount the battery to the starter body and will that be enough?

A G-26 will hand start very easy, save your money for something else. Go to your local Home Depot and get yourself a $2.00 starting glove.

I KNOW. it would be expensive. I'd rather spend it on smoke oil or fuel =) I just think I will have to hand start it. I am used to glow engines and have always used a starter, which is why I asked. Thanks for the prodding to get a glove, I think I am going to go that route.

Good move. I spent $220 on a Miller starter when I got into gas, I don't use it, don't need it.

I use my Miller starter all the time. It has been a favorite at large fly in' s where large gassers are not cooperating with the pilots.

Have you ever seen a hand that was wacked by a G-26 with a glove? If you hand start, you will get whacked. Not Maybe, It's just a question of when.
(By the way, those gloves are not leather on the back side of the hand where you will get wacked. Leather only on the inside of the hand!)

I have and I use a starter with all of my motors or at least a chicken stick on the smaller "glow" engines.

Dragging a starter and batteries is a pain. Having crippled fingers is expensive, everlasting, and of course lots of pain.

Starters are also great when working on a tempermental engine as well.

I use two 7-amp lead acid batteries in a separate carrier. It starts everything I have up to 100CC gas engine.

I'd like to see the hook-up for something lighter.

24v would be too high, it would spin too fast. 18v works better. I use a milwakee 18v battery drill on the high gear to start up to my G-62s. Above that, its hand start. My dynatron uses a 12v garden tractor battery.

I bought one of the adapters from http://www.afineredgemfg.com/. Works great and starts my DA-50 without my fingers getting in the way.

The Dynatron flips over my G-26 with ease. I use a 12 volt car battery.

DONT DO IT !!!!
I have a Dynatron on 24 volts, its a pain in butt because it turns too fast, its too heavy and 24 volt has also burnt out the switch contacts once, leading to the necessary fitment of a car type solonoid.
A by far better option, would be a geared starter, if I had my time again, I would buy the Align starter.

I use a Sullivan 12 volt starter and a Harbor Freight (about $10 on sale) 19.2Volt NiCad battery from one of their drills. When I need a starter I use this for the job. Third season of flying and the starter is still with us!

I have a Z 23 on magneto that I have run aprox. 2 gal. through. This was my first gas engine. One of the old timers gave me the clue that really works. The mag. fires aprox. 20 degs. before top dead center. With this in mind you must have the prop moving briskly before it reaches the compression at top dead center. Set the prop at aprox. 1 and 7 oclock. Have the prop at 2 to 2:30. Then slap it briskly through the compression stroke.
As for hand protection I bought a pair of welding gloves. All leather, front and back. I wouldn't use anything else if I was going to hand start a large engine, gas or glow.

All that I use for my G-26 is a Hobbico HD starter, and a 13 amp motorcycle battery from Walmart. Spins it to life every time .
