Default Damage is DONE...

I was given a Taylorcraft (beautiful scale) plane (108 inch WS) that had flown with a YS 120 in it. I converted to gas (G-26EI) with a 16 X 6 prop combo. Take off was fine, but engine didn't seem to pull the plane too well, ended up tip stalling and now it has nothing in front of the wing left. A major re-build for sure. I don't have the weight, but was thinking of putting a Zenoah G38 in when completed.

Curious what gas engine is comparable to the YS 120?

Thanks, let the rebuilding begin...slowly.

I would think a g-26 would beat a YS-120, at least equal it.

Figured so myself or at least it's equal. The ideal prop for a G26 is a 18x6 so maybe the engine was under propped and that might have been the problem.

A G-23 will. A G-26IE with a 16" prop is too small, I'll bet the plane stalled and snapped. A G-26 should swing an 18X8 - 18X10

You are EXACTLY correct. Plane just kind of hanging there. When I tried to increase the rpm's, snapped and the rest is history. When I rebuild, will definitely use a larger prop.

Hope the damage to the model was not too severe.

Hi Barry

Off topic, but did you recover your "War Booty" J3 from the Warbird event balsa eater tree? Hope not much damage. See you next year?

Sincerely, Richard/Club Saito #635

War Booty lives... Only damage was a broken prop, and $250.00 to rent the manlift. Several others came awfully close including Mac Hodges with the 20ft. B-29.

I saw Mac's B-29 at the Cape Coral Sea Hawks annual meet in March and it was awesome looking in the air. Would have been real sad if it had gotten damaged. Heard it was recently repaired too.
