Default that perfect hinging job

Hello,

my 100cc size gas plane comes with robart style hinge pins. trying to make the hinge job look nice and give max throw (almost to touching the bevel), what is you method? I realized in order to get max throw its mostly likely your going to leave a little more than 2 mm gap. is it best after inserting the hinges to leave the silver metal hinge pin exposed and not pushed in too much? Also, if that looks the neatest and brings max throw with 2.4 mm gap then simply applying hinge tape would suffice in your opinion? thanks

Do a dry fit of the hinges and get as minimal of a hinge gap as you can. If a surface only needs 20 degrees deflection don't try to get 45 out of it and end up with a wider hinge gap than you need . It doesn't really mater how much of the metal pin is exposed as long as it is centered (equidistant ) in the hinge line and doesn't cause binding.
I always seal all hinge gaps with hinge tape regardless of the amount of gap. Any reduction of airflow through the hinge will improve the effectiveness of the control surface.

I have some small needle nose pliers that I insert into the holes and use the taper to open up the hole a bit to allow the hinge pin to freely bed itself into both parts. This ensures that gap is as small as possible. I use gorilla glue for the pins, flex the surface to max deflection needed and then center. As stated always seal the gap.
