As i leave in Brazil, all the parts are difficult...because almost all the components have to be bought in USA..
At first, we called Wendell and bought the original plans from the Cessna 421 27%.....the checking the plan we decided to construct all the kit because buying one in USA will be difficult....
We started the body changing some parts to be easier than the original one....

Hello Heraldo, I cant haul a 27%, so I chose the 24%. I liked the short nose version better, the 414 Chancellor. I bought Wendells plans and just put a short nose on it. Adding tip tanks and using Cessna 310 cowls from Stans Fiberglass makes a 414. I also bought a set of Wendels Cessna 310 plans for the nacelle construction which is different that the 421c. I wanted a full interior in mine so I cut the formers to accomodate. Its too late for you to do this but some other guys may want to attempt it. I think there is only 3 or 4 guys building Wendels 421's in the world, so we better stick together pretty close!! I hope you dont mind me sending some pics. I was'nt planing on starting my own thread. I have more pics if you request them. What engines are you planning on using? I have a 120" Bud Nosen Cessna 310 that flys fantastic on Zenoah G-26"s with an APC 17-8 prop. Those would be my recomended engines. Good luck Heraldo !! Rick

It's too late for me..i am planing to do just the interior for the pilot and co pilot....about the engines...i will use two DA50 because it's very light and powerfull.....with a 20x10 3-blade propabily...
I will add mode pictures late but if you want..i cant send you with more quality...and if you don't mind...please send me more details about the cabine....i like very much yours!!!

Hello Heraldo, your project is coming right along! The quality of your work appears to be excellent ! I just finished sheeting my fuse last week. DA 50's are an excellent choice for power and the 20" 3 bladed props with long style "ultimate" spinners will look great in front of those cowls !! I glued pink insulation foam in between the formers and then taped 1/64" thick birch stencils of the window sill cutouts on both sides of the foam. Square on the inside and of coarse oval on the outside. Then I simply hotwired the window. My wall thickness is 3/4", but it should have been 1/2" thick for the 24% sized fuse. The fuse was not very stable untill the foam was glude in. Then I sheeted the interior wall with 1/64" balsa sheeting and covered it with suede along with the carpet. It not only looks good, it has that "new airplane" smell to it! I will begin the cockpit and panal after the tail fins are completed. I was the beta tester for the Zenoah engines developing the "twin Sync" engine rpm syncronizer. Every twin engine aircraft of any value, definatly needs one of these. Its good insurance and WILL save your plane from snapping over into a death roll in case of an engine failure!! The technolagy is now available to save all your hard work from certain destruction! They are available from RCshowcase.com. You can read all about it on RCuniverse by searching "engine syncronizer". You can get a tremendous amount of detail info from the pics of the 421c at www.airliners.net by going to the photo search page and scrolling down to Cessna 421 on "aircraft type".Heres a few more pics to keep you pumped!! Good job Heraldo !! Rick

Dear Gents,
have decided to build the 421CW (RAM conversion with winglets) in 27%. As I am about one month away from delivery, may I kindly ask to let me know the internal width of the cowling. I plan to install a Boxer gas guzzler if it will fit nicely.
many thxs in advance
Wolfgang
best regards from Austria (NO kangaroos, but ALPS )

Sorry, i am late with the pictures from Cessna, i took some pictures from the cowls and measure it....The problem to use a twin cilinder engine as you can see...that the cilinders aren't in the same line with the prop....
I thought to use a 3w-56 engine but because of that, the cilinder won't fit the cowl...so i will use a single cilinder engine inverted....
with won't understand what i did...i can explain better....

Hello Heraldo, before you cut those air inlets on the cowls, look at the air inlet shape on the photo I posted above of the white 421. The shape is different than what is molded in the glass. Reserch the 421 on www.airliners.net and confirm the shape of the inlet is the same on all of the 421c versions. I dont know if the inlet shapes ever changed, but please do that before you cut them out. All of the 421c's had the gear reduction prop drives, so the cowls where the same as far as I know. Personally, I would duplicate the shape of the inlet of the one in the photo above. The DA 50 may still hang down low enough to catch enough wind to keep from overheating. If not , than just mold some glass baffles to direct the airflow past the cylinders from the scale air inlet shape. You can also reserch for the air exit posistions (cowl flaps) and put them exactly where they belong and make baffles to direct the air out of the cowls. Your cowl flaps will probably wide open, since you need 3 times the exit vs. the inlet area. If there is cowl flap lines already molded into the cowls, they may not be correct. How big of an opening were you planning on having at the top of the cylinder? Take Care. Rick

High Guys,
many tks for letting me have the width.
It is a little to small for the engine. The twin cylinder will fit, the spark plugs will protrude. Hmmm, have to look for a smaller engine.
The 421 could be easily converted to 414, just by deleting the upper cone on the cowling, as the 414 had no gear reduction drive. Most likely I will make a small reduction drive to gain the 1/2".
As far as I remember ,the 421 (was owning and flying two of these babies, N421G (1979) see pic above and N5705C (1980) the later OE-FEI) there are no cowl flaps. I always had the problem to keep the engine warm on descend, this was a reduction in power of only 3 inch per minute which made some approaches very difficult.
If you don´t keep the GTSIO´s warm they set you back with a repair of about 50.000 US latest at half time.
I just looked up in the POH (Pilots operating handbook) and I can confirm that there are no cowl flaps. Extra cooling is provided by lots of fuel (mixture rich).

High friends, it´s me again,
The RM 50V2 will fit, has 8,5 inches width over the cylinder heads, with the small sparkplugs and caps it may fit very thight.

Marcelo, thanks for your coments....Unfortunently i already bought the DA engines for the Cessna....some time ago i went to Gugumodels to pick up my jet and he told me good things about your engine....
The next projet maybe will be a big Pitts..and we could use your engine...
We will need some things for your plane like some servos and acessories....Do you have how to send it to Brazil??
Best Regards...
Heraldo
