I just ordered a RCS 90cc from TBM ( $285 BLACK FRIDAY SALE). What is the distance from the firewall to tbe back plate on the Clipped Wing Cub? I had been on the fence between a 55 or 111 DLE and was leaning towards the 111 but the price on the RCS 90cc was just too GOOD.....hope the engine is also!

BAS, I have the DL100 in mine and I did not have to split the cowl. It barely fits but it makes it without the need to split. Jerry,

I assume you need to take the plugs out when installing the cowl? Can you tell me what the width of the heads are with and without the plugs, just trying to decide on a twin for my super cub. I'm debating on a few engines:
DA-100
3W-85B2
3W-70B2
TMM-106
DL-100
I'm not looking to 3d at 1/2 throttle but love having more than enough power for vertical lines, I'm also looking to minimize butchering the cowl. Which one gives me the best chance of fitting the cowl and sufficient power for vertical lines??
Thx..

The DL and DA will require the plugs to be removed to slip on the cowl. It barely fits but it does fit. The DA 85 would be the best solution in my mind if you fly at sea level. The DL at 5400' is almost unlimited vertical, the 85 would provide the same performance at sea level I would assume. Jerry.

I purchased my motor, I ended up buying a 2nd hand 3W-78i b2... Looking at the dimensions I think I can keep everything inside without cutting the cowl but will have to wait till the engine arrives.
I also purchased some gear for the WM super cub based on the Wallace gear. Looking forward to getting both parcels in....

Very nice. I had a set made by someone else, they did not hold up very well. I look forward to seeing yours installed before I pull the trigger on a new set.
That engine should be perfect.. I'm waiting for Henry at http://www.rcaer.com/index.cfm to release his 70cc twin.

Note to everyone: Locktite your wheel collars and grind the strut so the set screw has something to bite into to.

Lost the wheel on takeoff so I flew around for photo ops and to burn off some of the 32 oz fuel and all of the 50oz smoke. Then came in for a one wheel landing (my first). Plane didn't flip over and I killed the engine prior to landing so the prop wouldn't hit the ground if/when the strut snagged the ground. Basically I came in gliding and the landed on one wheel. Tried to hold it off and almost made it till I slowed enough so the strut wouldn't snag......well I dropped the wing a tad too early and it did snag but no damage!!!!
Thanks JohnVH for snapping the results.

What I neglected to mention is that the week prior the same wheel fell off on the rollout of landing and I broke my prop on that one. I just added loctite and tightened the set screw down......basically got lazy and didn't do what I knew I should have done from the start.....etch the strut!

What I do is drill the axle to accept a cotter pin. Use a punch to set a mark on the end of the axle and drill a 1/16" hold through the axle to put a small cotter pin in. You won't be losing any wheels after you do that. Jerry.

I use a bvm fill valve connected to a small piece of 3mm air line which is then connected to the fill valve that Dubro gives you with their tires. I like mine soft so it doesn't take much air. I have a portable air compressor from Home Depot. I just burp it a bit and they are filled.
Hey guys, I have the Hanger 9 1/4 scale pnp cub. I have had it know for about two years. I absolutley love it... I know am thinking seriously about getting either the Wm super cub or the clipped wing. Which one do you think. I guess the Clipped wing would be more action. Feedback please.
Thanks,
Billy
