I've only flown the clipped cub and its baddass.....don't know anything about the others. My dubro tires are not airfilled. I didn't want to go that route for fear of failure.
I may do the cotter pin as well as etching the strut, Thanks for the idea.

Billy, If I had to do it all over again I'd by the clipped version. Nothing wrong with the SC but you don't need the flaps and the clipped would give you a more aerobatic plane. Jerry.

I just received my 3w-78i b2 engine, a quick measurement against the cowl and it looks like the heads will easily fit. Only a small hole will need to be cut out on the cowl for the plug tips, now I just need to find some time to start the project.... The engine came supplied with cannisters, I have ordered some mufflers which should arrive in a couple weeks.

You can laugh all you want, it is an ARF what ever way you look at it. Plastic covering, servos mounted on the outside like a 3D Plane. I have built 2 1/3 scale Balsa Usa Cubs, it just seperates the want to be builders, from the real true builders of PIPER CUBS. Nitro models also has there piece of crap Cubs, The only difference between real builders and want to bees, are the women, men, and boys are the price of there projects. Amd I am notr talking about China Model ARFS.

MORGANFLYBOY: OMG, a Piper Cub Goddess! Did you just figure out it's a ARF, maybe the Balsa USA sawdust dulled your common sense? Not sure what your point was other than to slap your own back? Congrads on building a cub or two, been there, done that...even have the t-shirt........ARF's are the bomb!

It's an ARF alright, a nice one at that.

So...why did you post the above?

I think he suffered a mild case of .......Lord of the Piper Cub syndrome!.....All kidding aside, I just finnished the clipped wing cub and waiting on decent weather for the maiden flight. Nice ARF even if I'd built a few cub's in the past......nice ARF period.......

I received my scale gear from cubnuts today, overall I am pretty happy with the construction. The gear legs are heavier than my1/4 scale robarts, probably the only thing that could be improved would be to have pins like the robart gear instead of socket bolts and lock nuts. Looking forward to installing and trying them out to see how well they hold up, for $125 I'm happy. Here is a few pics of the gear.

Just curious if anyone has added any right engine thrust to their engine mount? I have finally started mine and will be mounting my 3W-78 b2 hopefully later this week.

Put mine flat against the firewall and have no issues. Either its already built into it or you don't need, not sure which. Jerry.

What are you using for bungee cords? I need to find something better than elastics

I use heavy # 64 rubber bands and i change them about once a month or around 15 flights to be on the safe side

I'm going to see if I can find some heavy duty rubber "o" rings, I'll have to check the valve shops in town.

I've tried a variety of options on mine. The O rings for me did not work very well due to the fact that they just didn't seem to have the spring to them like rubber bands do. I was not able to find shock cord (bungee) in a small enough diameter to work on the gear. I use shock cord on my Hempel 40% cub and it works great. Seems to me I always end up back at the rubber band solution and like stated earlier change them out after a few outings to the field. Jerry.

You might check with this mfg: SBC Industries They actually make bungy cords for all kinds of applications. Including 'real' Cubs.
I am using Mil Spec O-rings and the plane sits fine on the ground, but haven't flown it yet.

My issues with the O rings was that they did not "rebound" like the rubber bands do. They tend to stretch out over time. The O rings did not tend to break on a hard landing like the rubber bands do. Bungee is the best solution just wish we could find about a 1/8" dia size.
