No they don't fly very well in the wind. They are light for their size. Early morning and pre dusk flights are the best time to avoid the wind.

I would like to get my hands on a pair of those 8.5 inch wheels. They would give the 1/3 cub a bush plane look. And how nice that would be in flying out of grass.

Mine loves the wind, in fact I prefer to fly it on windy days, it flys much slower.
This bird can handle anything...
I have a set of the Hemple wheels coming. 75.00 bucks , but, they need 1/4 inch axles, and are solid foam.....they may not work out. I would prefer pnuematic wheels.

Mine flies slow on calm days. especially with the flaps down. Smooooooooth, no bouncing around in the air and very realistic like slow flight and landings. But I am using only a Fuji 64cc for power. The 64 is plenty for this plane. I think World models suggests a 80cc size for the added weight.

I was flying mine in 10mph gusting to 15 Saturday and having a ball. 20 degrees of flaps and two clicks off idle just hangs there. I have a 65cc Stihl 4 stroke in mine. Great 4stroke sound is perfect for this airplane.

Did you take the Stihl engine out of a backpack blower or can you get the engine alone without removing it from a tool?
What modifications did you do to the engine to make it work in the airplane? Prop adapter, exhaust, engine mount, etc.

Ok, I need help. I've got a DA100 (a cub needs a twin you know), Wallace gear, 7" wheels, all my digital MG servos and receiver. All I need is a plane. But, I can't make up my mind whether to get the Super Cub or the Clipped Wing Cub. Whats some of the key differences between the two? Are they really the same plane with the exception of the flaps? Thanks, Jerry.

Amen on the cub needs a twin.mine is the full wing version. I put a DL 100 on my cub and really like it the heads sticking out look cool and the extra OMG power is sweet, and sounds cool to. plenty of power to hover and pull straight up. And nice to fly around at 1/4 throttle. When its time to land just idle way down and let her float in for an nice soft landing.

I took off my twin 3W106 and went to a DA-85, and man, I am a happy camper.
Vertical till forever, smokes like it is on fire.
I did vertical rolls with it Sunday.....just love it.

Hey Boss, You think the DA85 is as powerful as your 100? I have a DL100 on order for mine but I also fly the Aeroworks Extra with the DA85 and love it. The DL appears to be late in shipping so I've considered canceling that order and buying the 85. But, the twin looks good on a cub and I figured I'd get more power from the 100. Does this bird balance good with the 85 without adding lead? Thanks, Jerry.

I was going to use the GT80 also but after measuring the engine I found that not only cutting out the sides of the cowling was nessesary to make it fit, the top of the cowl had to be cut open also to fit the carburetor. I used a Fuji 64 instead. A ZDZ 80 would really throw this plane around, and it would fit the cowling with only a cutout for the exhaust. If I used the GT80 I would just leave the cowling off, that way you could show off the engine, which is by the way a good looking motor.

Thanks rglass. I downloaded the manual last night from the world models web site and noticed the motor to be installed inverted, which means the muffler would exit the top of the cowl???? As I will be using the cub as a glider tug plane I might stick with the GT80 and see how I go from there.

Hehehe........... you just getting that coz I showed you my big Cub.
I would be going for something like the MT 50 Gasser. plenty of power and fits in the cowl. 80 is just too much for this machine.
My J3 has the same wing and I fly it at about 1/5 throttle with the DZY48. far to much engine........ even for towing. you almost need to shut the engine off to land.
