RE: Half Scale Fokker DVI
Happy 4th of July!!
Michelle and I did a lot of work on the planes today! (Planes...?)
Yes...we are simultaneously rebuilding the 1/4 scale BUSA DRI...that's another story...
One photo shows mesh carbon fiber on the outside edge of the last wing rib. We also applied it on the bottom of the trailing edge scallops. It makes it wicked strong, super light.
One photo shows the cable following the scallop for extra detail.
The wing is bolted to the plane- final adjustments done...all lined up- square[sm=teeth_smile.gif]
Arthur...this is a sneak preview of the 'new DRI company plane'... Doug, bring your money![sm=wink_smile.gif]

Hay Paul,
As of today I got the OK from the little lady to come on Saturday for the ODP.
PS. regrading the Dr.I axle incidence. I have the copy of the drawing that states the +2 deg. Alex Imrie in his book says the this is a Idflieg construction drawing but also list it at +2. It's dated November 1917 so I would have to question its legitimacy as it's not a production drawing and may well be the information from the prototypes of the F.I's. I'll well ask Gary if he has it documented in another drawing.

RE: Half Scale Fokker DVI
Yes, got it running last evening after some advice from
Barry.
I'm hoping the new (slightly used) engine will solve my
issues.
I've been fighting the Roto for three years now, I won't know
how to act to have a whole day of flying without engine problems,
(dare I say all weekend)............
Glad you can make it Lloyd
Later.........Del

Hi Paul-
I just want you to know that all of the RCRC guys were sick about the loss of your plane at our event. It is awsome to see the photos of your rebuild. I don't know if it will help but we did make $14,259 for Kosair Charities from this years event thanks to you and the other outstanding pilots that support us year after year. Your loss wasn't in vain. There are a lot of children who will benefit from your wonderful support of RCRC and our Wings for Kids Air Show. You are always a large part of our show and we can't say thank you enough. We will see you early Friday morning for ODP. I think we have 5 or 6 coming. Baily and I are staying the whole weekend for the first time.

Thank you very much for your kind words. Raising 14K in 2 days is just amazing to me! You guys put on one hell of a show and the crew work there butts off! King Arthur once said to me " Son.... once you participate in this show, you will come back every year".....well he was telling the truth (this time). Between my wife Michelle (who really loves your show too) and several friends who are helping with the rebuild.....we should be back on track in no time![sm=teeth_smile.gif]
That is great to hear you guys are staying for the whole weekend, we are going to have a blast!
See ya next week!!

I DID SEE THE POST ! I think I will rent it out per flight so I can get my money back. The only exception will be to Art, he may have to put up a little more being what he did to it before LOL

RE: Half Scale Fokker DVI
Its Wed at 1am. Only have time for a couple quick posts...
One pic shows the lower wing being covered. We completed it tonight and the rib tapes are on. Faux stitching is being applied. Should have the 'completed' picture tomorrow.
One pic shows the work Jeff Cutter did - completed the cockpit and the hood, gas tank, smoke tank and misc bracing in the body.
One pic shows the top wing being framed up-by Barry and yours truly, another shows it after the forms were removed and getting ready for the rib caps and sawtooth.
Michelle is working on the faux stitching (oh, she did all the covering on the lower wing.. Yes, rib tapes too!)

Glad to hear you are coming to ODP, hope the little lady dosent change her mind[sm=angel_smile.gif]
I would like to hear what your opinion is on how much do you think the sub wing is flying the aircraft....would you notice a flying difference between 0.0 degrees and +2.0 positive?
Stuff like that...and of course bring that lap top!
Hope to see you next week!
Paul

RE: Half Scale Fokker DVI
Here's the Wed update..Computer problems yesterday kept us from posting...
As you can see, we have the top wing built...all that's left is final sanding and installation of the aileron servos.. Then covering and painting...
Hopefully today we will be able to set all the aluminum struts for the top wing.

RE: Half Scale Fokker DVI
Today, with the help of my friends, we have the 155 inch top wing installed, with a couple of new struts. Everything went back to the original measurements which made quick work of this daunting task. There's another picture of my pilot giving a 'shout out' to GTM.
Tomorrow, we plan to finish sanding the wing for covering... About another hour for the body final sanding, and we should be covering that on Saturday.

RE: Half Scale Fokker DVI
No time for a nap today folks!
We finally got some paint on the bottom wing and we installed electronics in the upper wing, sanded our butts off....on the top wing, and covered the top of the top wing.
Doing final adjustments on the main cabanes, relocating a couple J-bolts, repairing the side cheeks, and completed the N-strut construction.
As soon as the scotch weld on the N-struts dries, we'll sand them down to a mirror finish and get them painted!
Tomorrow, our goal is to have both wings completed with paint, finish up the body on Monday, final assembly on Tuesday, test run -engine and electronics on Wednesday.
Head to the field for the show on Thursday!
((If you're wondering how I'm going from 8am to midnite.... peak at the garbage can!))

Will post new pictures tomorrow- camera is set on the wrong setting...[:@]

RE: Half Scale Fokker DVI
Four more days to go ....Too close to call...But its sure nice to have some paint on the plane!
N-struts are done and painted...
Bottom wing just needs crosses.
Top wing needs color on the top, the A emblem, and crosses.
Fuse needs misc...about 2 hours...and then it will be ready for cover.
Guns are in from Mike Celesky...THANK YOU MIKE FOR ANOTHER OUTSTANDING JOB!
Yes...that is Michelle painting the plane!!
The ODP Plane is almost complete. One picture shows a vinyl sticker over the faux stitching. The sticker is really thin and the stitching shows well.

Paul, kudos to you and Michelle. You both made one hell of a comitment and followed through spending more hours than I want to know to get his finished and back flying in less than a month. I know my contribution is nothing compaired to the work you two invested. Now get your rear down the field.
