Paul Westrich and Barry Vogel from the Ohio Dawn Patrol just decided that 1/3 scale wasnt big enough.... so we are trying 1/2 scale to see if that "scratches our itch". Glenn Torrance has supplied us with the plans and parts for the build. We do not plan to do a full build thread, but we will definitely keep you updated on our progress. Our goal is to have it ready for the 2nd annual Ohio Dawn Patrol, July 18th and 19th. Today was our first build day...and this is our progress....

Hey Guys,
Wow I'm actually surprised to see you all acknowledged knowing us.
As soon as Paul puts the chainsaw and axe away he's good to go.

Ok, we just got through week two. Here is our progress.
The picture with the body only is 12 pounds (will try to update you as the weight increases)
The picture with the body, subwing frame and the wheels weighs 16 pounds.
Subwing- We added two 1/2 inch carbon fiber tubes for strength
Axle is a 3/8" titanium rod
The wheels are two 16" bicycle tires from my neighbor's bike
The stab permeter frame is 1/2" carbon fiber
The elevators are piece laminations - just like the rudder

Half Scale DVI will be powered by a DA150 with a 32x12 prop
Elevator will use 2 JR 8711s servos (approximately 840 in. oz. torque)
Rudder will use two Futaba 5050 quarter scale servos (approximately 525 in. oz of torque)
Ailerons will use two JR 8611s servos (at approximately 660 in. oz of torque)
Throttle will use Futaba 3151 digital servo
Four 4200 milliamp battery packs
Electronic kill switch and power expander - made by 42% Aircraft
Four switches and a lot of extensions... made by Bad Brad Graphics
Will have a full smoke system installed

You guys didn't waste any time on this. Looks really good. For 1/2 scale it is large but not as large as you would think. - Glenn

Hey guys,
Well we're moving forward and expecting to put a full day in tomorrow, and you guessed it, Pauls been avoiding the neighbor kid like the the taxman. Thus far we're guessing the final weight to be in the 60's. The colors are going to be a painted DVI, the green and mauve one with the letter A on the top wing. We would have really liked to do the lozenge, however in 1/2 scale we would have to paint the whole shoot'n match. We'll be posting progress photo's for this week prob. tomorrow night or Mon. Have a great day.
