Default SukHoi SU-26 100cc FLY MODEL good or bad ARF

I ordered this kit from nitroplanes.com last week. This is the first ARF plane I have ever purchased. I'am looking for information from anybody else who bought this kit on weather or not they reinforced anything or if you may have used different hardware ect. One thing that i'am wondering about is the hinges they used. They are like round pins that get glued into both surfaces instead of flat hinges like i'am used to seeing. This is also my first giant scale plane that I have ever had so when I start putting this thing together I'll have a lot of questions for you experienced giant scale builders if you would kindly help me out. One other think what is the advantage of using two servo's for the pull pull on the rudder instead of one bigger one. I'am thinking about going with a DL 100 for this plane any coments on that being a good or bad idea. Is there any suggestions on what size or even what brand servo's I should use. It is settup for two on each aileron, one on each elevator , the instructions so two for the rudder but it looks like there is a openning for a bigger servo then the two they show mounted in the book. Any input on things I should watch for, or should or shouldn't do would be greatly appreciated Thanks Terry.

Those hinges are most likely a clone of the "Robart" pinned hinges which are excellent. However some/most of the Robart clones are not of the same high quality as the actual Robarts (cheap soft pin material and looser fitting). If in doubt, just replace them with the same size (usually just a tad larger than the copies) "Robart" brand and be done with it.

Thanks Bass1 I will replace them with the Robart hinges. I read in the QQ Yak 54 101" builg thread that Rezagh doubbled up on the hinges on the outer ends of the ailerons. would you suggest doing this with these robart hinges. And can any body tell me if two servos on the rudder a must or is one large one just as good.

I've used the Robart style hinges for all my giant scale planes without a problem, most ARFs even the expensive ones use them. The two servo thing depends on what servo you are using, and how much money you want to spend. If it is a Hitec 7955 you might get by with just one (I've seen it done). If it is a Power HD 9150's-$33.00 each, stack 2 of them (440 oz of torque) or you can get 2 of the power HD 9660's 275oz of torque (550oz stacked) @ $65.00 each. One JR 8711 is $140.00 with 403oz of torque IMHO is plenty for a 100cc bird. These all can be found at Troybuilt Models.

by the way the plane looks pretty nice, for that price you can build this thing for about the same as most 30% planes out here! Ohh, I noticed it has a tunnel for cans, I guess you just have to make the Can mounts. Do you plan on mounting them?

Hey Also, The DLE-111 just came out and I know a guy on RCU selling them for 680.00 just check out the engine section. If it is setup for dual servos on the ailerons go with the HD-9150's they will save you the money and you will still have enough torque to toss this plane around. for the elevators you can get by with the 9150's, but I would put on the Hitec 7955's or JR 8611's or the Power HD 9660's if you plan on doing any 3d or hard flying in the future.

Also, you want to go over any ARF you get with good eyes! reinforce the motor box with tri stock! (Pin it up, if its not already) check all glue joints.

Thanks T.J. for the helpful information. I will probably be going with the DLE 111 if the 680.00 free shipping price holds out for three more weeks, if not the 519.99 with 69.99 shipping DL 100 on Ebay will be my second choice. I will also be using the stock muffles. It seems like once you start a build thread the people with giant scale know how come out of the woodwork with helpful ideas. I just wish they would all give me their knowledgeable input now to help me decide on what products I'll will finally end up going with. Even if with no disrespect I end up following somebody else's advise. Any helpful input would extremely appreciated.

Thanks a ton T.J. now I can contact then for parts if I need them. If the canopy isn't to much I'll probable order one and keep the one that came with the plane for a spare, it has a little dent in if from shipping, or if I know I can get a new one I can try to remove the dent with heat and not weary about ruining it. I just picked up a new JR 9303 2.4DSM at UPS today. That was 700.00 with a extra R921 Rx.that was 200.00 over my monthly aloud budget to get this plane flying. Next Monday I'll be ordering 4- Power HD 9150's for the ailerons and 2- Hitec HS7955TG for the elevator halves lets hope they have some left and they are still on sale that will eat up April allotment. May will probably run over budget to for the engine' then June should finish up with all the other misc. things and hopefully start putting her all together

Hey TVL... Here are a couple other servo choices if you would like... These are Just as strong or stronger than the 7955TG servos at half the price. I heard they are pretty good servos. My friend Henry from RCGF Engines (Piston on here) has been telling me about these for a while, The Distributor in Australia has been buying them and Testing them for a few months now and he said that he has put over 600,000 cycles on the servos under a load and none of them have gone bad. Also Hyperion is a very reputable RC company with many good products, (They are a Name brand) if you check most of the AMA mags you will find the add for these servos. These are The Atlas DS-20UMD 326oz of holding torque at half the price of the hitecs http://www.allerc.com/product_info.p...bfdcd9d763ce66 And these are corless with 264oz of torque with speed http://www.allerc.com/product_info.p...oducts_id=3958 They are both fully programmable, you can buy the USB cable and program for %17.00 and set the speed and number of degrees you would like them to rotate.

Just a couple more suggestions to help with your budget. I will be getting a couple of them in to test them out on one of my big birds, so depending on how long it takes you to get yours I can give you a first hand review on them.

I see alot of guy's looking for help but only a few people jump in to help or share thier thoughts on the subject. THANK AGAIN Terry By the way My family nick name is T.J. also.

I'm more than happy to help a fellow modeler... I can just throw out suggestions of very expensive servos and electronics that will work for your specific situation. But I also know that some people like to work with a tight budget (Me included). And If I can save a few hundred dollars without sacrificing the integrity of the plane or the performance of it, I'm all for it.

If your estimate time of completion is in june I should have some well before then and give you a report on them (I'm thinking sometime in may for them to be inside a plane and flying).

Hey T.J. at the rate I'm going it will be late June early July before I get this plane started. I picked up a battery pack for My funtana to day and am planning on getting her ready to go soon. I told Laurie we are putting the trainer I got in that {swap meet/auction} last Nov. in the air this weekend weather providing. Its been over twenty years ago and I can't wait you see how rusty I'am. We were out with Laurie's sister Saturday and after three Yagee bombs and four or five mugs of beer Laurie was well on her way. I asked her sister if she would sew up some wing bag's for me just to bring up talk about the SukHoi. Her whole family is anxious to see this plane finished and flying. Any way with Laurie being three plus sheets to the wind I could have came home and ordered every thing I needed to get the SukHoi done. But being mister nice guy I didn't take advantage of the situation knowing the later consequence's

Do the ele have only three hinges per piece? They need at least four. I would put another two in between the present ones. Same with rudder.
