Zippi, could you please tell me the weight of the Taylercraft with the Dle30 engine, I would be happy if the weight is flight ready with fuel.

Thanks
Michael
Michael,

I have no way of weighing my plane but I would say it's at the higher end of the 14–15.5 lb range given on the box. It feels heavy but flys and lands light.

G'Day Apalsson, If you have a look through the Airborne magazine you will see there is someone importing AW planes into OZ now. He may not have it in stock but he will certainly get whatever you want if he can. I spoke with him last week and he was having a shipment sent soon in which he could have special orders added. Seems like a very nice bloke. Might be a good idea to give him a call.

Cheers Dale
Hi Dale,

Thanks mate, I really appreciate the heads-up on this.
I won't be getting one at this stage though because I have already put my $$$ into another bird.

Enjoy yours

I don't intend to get one of these planes, but am reading with interest like a good book all your posts of your many trials and tribulations with it, especially with regards to engine selection and subsequent balance problems.
psavagecouldn't help but notice your address, rode my Honda to Edmonton this past August to visit my cousin and family in St. Albert. Nice city, we had a great time there, including the West Edmonton Mall. Stopped in Sturgis on way home. Gustof

Hi Apalsson, dont worry too much about it, as you said there are lots of nice plains out there. After crashing my tcraft I bought a Piper Pawnee and although different in style and aerobatic ability its a great plane fly and have. To me its just as impressive and easier to build. I must say though, after sifting through the debry of my Tcraft, I am pretty amazed at the strength of the frame in the fuselage. But, they all fall apart with a half decent fall from the sky.
Hey if the fuse is ok build a wing for it??

Lotsofcrashes, yes about retirement and getting older there are some changes (at least for me). Semi retired for about eight years and at sixty three don't care how much gets done in a work session whereas when younger, there was a drive to get a model finished in the least amount of time. And, when younger time was robbed from other chores but don't find myself doing that (at least not to the degree).

AA5BY, sounds like your in a good place. Had to smile when you said when younger the time you spent on planes was robbed from doing chores. Thats so true.
For awhile I kept getting so behind on things I had to do because I was working on a build e.g. Taylorcraft, but its a bit better these days. No the tcraft is not going back into the workshop, Ive scavenged too much from it now and I have my eye on the Monocoupe. Not that I have room at the moment !!

Looks like this coming Saturday is going to be another nice one. I can't believer it, three Saturdays in a row with the temp in the high 50"s to high 60's and wind 10mph or less. My buddy that knows how to use a camera said he has to work but could come out later so if I'm still there When he shows up I'll get a better video of my Taylorcraft in action. Mid November, can't be many good days left.

My Taylorcraft will be finished by Saturday and the weather here is supposed to be great too! But our field is closed until Dec. 1st out of courtesy to the deer hunters in the surrounding woods.

And today the weatherman said to expect snow by Thanksgiving day. Oh boy.

Rick sorry to hear that the field is closed, are all americans bad shots or i have mis-read your post? is it safer to fly it on a big lake somewhere out of double 'o' buckshot range? and it would look great with white ski's and red tips..what do you think?

61ahs,

I think you need to strike a deal with the deer hunters. You can fly but you have to attach a camera to your Taylorcraft and spot the dear for them. You could contact them via cell phone and give them the Longitude and latitude .

I have contacted Horizon Hobby twice about the rear struts that broke on me and this being a warrany issue and I have not recieved a response. First time I have had any dealings with Horizon and it looks like their support for their product is not there. I'll give them another week to respond to the emails and then I'll call. Looking foward to going out again tomorrow and flying the Taylorcraft again

You're better off calling Horizon. They do answer their emails but it takes then a couple of days usually. Calling is a better option for your warranty issue.

This is another reason why I tend not to buy their planes.
If you are disappointed with Horizon locally, try to contact their overseas importers. Just don't rely on the care factor

I wish i could find the original t-craft , larger one . Mine is just about wore out and needs some parts. Then one is just to expensive for what your getting and to small.

Got to fly my Taylorcraft again today and we shot a little better video than the last one. All the stab braces held up fine this trip out and the Taylorcraft is good to go.

I Bought one of these aircraft yesterday. I was lucky to get it from Model Flight in Adelaide. Someone didnt pick it up and after several phone calls, the shop put it back in stock. I Grabbed her! As far as i know, there wont be any more of these in Australia till february next year.
What an easy build! I already have the tail feathers on and operational. Landing gear in on. All I need to do is Zenoah installation and aileron servos in and connected.
I cant wait to fly her.

Cheers

zootster,

Glad you got your hands on one. They are a joy to fly. I'm just sorry to see the end of the flying season coming real soon. I'm just glad I got to fly my this year before the bad weather hits.
