Hi all, just received my Taylorcraft and it is very impressive. All I have done so far is to have a look through and do a dry assembly. The quality is what you expect from hangar 9, everything fits up very well particularly the tail plane. From the look of it this machine is going to be a very quick build.
I was thinking of installing the SPE 26 in this plane not sure yet? I also have a Saito FG 20 sitting there but not sure if it will have the required power.
Here are a couple of pics to start the ball rolling.

Gday Dale
It does look good was that a full body pilot I could see in the pic? Look forward to hearing how the build goes and what powerplant you decide to use..Keep the pics coming

dale691,
I have this plane on backorder and they will probably ship late this week. I'm thinking of a gasser in the 28cc to 38cc range. At 14–15.5 lb I want it to have enough power to hover the plane a little. The plane looks really good. Keep us informed on the built and engine selection.

An OS 1.60 FX will hover the plane. A guy I know used to hover the old one with that powerplant. I just picked the old one up used and the guy said that it's airborne almost instantly with a G26. I have a G38 needing a home, so I think I'll go with that.

dale691,
Is the wing semi or full symmetrical?

The wing is a full symmetrical wing. I am thinking of giving the XYZ 26 engine from Hobbycity a go in this plane. I know they are a bit on the cheap side and maybe not a power house but I'm just curious. Does anyone know dimensions wise if they are about the same as the Zenoah?
Also If you bend the undercarriage on this plane I think you will also destroy the fuselage, it is very very heavy duty. good stuff

I was planning on mounting the Saito 36 inverted. I have a Pitts style muffler for it already. If not I am going electric and save the Saito for my LA-7

I didn't know before I opened the box all surfaces are glues and horns are installed. Seems to me Hangar 9 are really making moves to have QB type aircraft. even down to the markings on the fire wall for selected engines.

I hope your are talking about the Zenoah G26 I just got one G26 EI and put it on the shelf waiting for my Tcraft. I hope mine comes in next week. Just to clarify you mean the Zenoah........... Mr. Bigg?. They say 20-26cc gas so I hope the Zenoah 26 will be good for this one.
The instruction manual online only talks about a 20 cc Zenoah. I bought the bigger one because I thought it would fit and the 20 cc may be a little on the low end for power. Anyway I hope I bought the right motor.

And some more. I haven't had much to do with the Zenoah, are the mountings different on the 20 and the 26. The only marks on the fire wall say 20ei.

The pics look good. Can't wait to get mine. What you can do is remove the flat mount plate from the back of the engine and mark a center line from left to right. Draw a horizonal line thru the marks for the G20 on the firewall. Lay the mount plate on the firewall and line up your center line on the mount plate with the center line on the firewall and the horizonal line you marked on the firewall. The horizonal line should be lined up in the center of the mounting holes. Now, use your mount plate as a template and mark the hole locations and drill.

I expect a lot of us will have these in our hands by the end of the week. I hope the G26 will fit in the cowl.
