RE: Hostetler Pitts 35%
There's [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvJ-VeoN9zo&]this[/link] one and also [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACtHHOVnW1E]this[/link] one - both of which are the Hostetler 35% Pitts.
You've seen [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_923905/tm.htm]this[/link] build thread I assume? A number of guys in here have started to build one but I've not heard of one completed yet, other than the links above. This includes me - I've built the tail group so far, but keep getting distracted by other things. I'm currently going through a "must finish the current project and build some more Pitts parts" phase
I assume you're thinking of building one? If you do I'd love to hear all about it.

Yes, I`ve seen the build thread, it has been helpful. I have built the wings and most of the fus. I have the plans and had the parts kitted by All-American Kit Cutters. The engine is a D+B 5.1, (83cc) with smoke mufflers. It seems that the finished weight will be over 26 pounds`s. I was wondering about the aileron movement, seems too little, (5/16) up and down? Any thoughts? Rick

RE: Hostetler Pitts 35%
5/16" aileron movement? Where did you get that from? I've just double checked my plans and I don't have any recommended control throws for any of the surfaces on there. For the 1st flight I'd be setting up large control surface movements and using a good amount of exponential (say 70-80%) so the the surfaces aren't too touchy around neutral but you've still full control throws at the extremes if you need it. That way if things get messy you won't be wasting time looking for a dual rate switch but will have the best of both worlds already at your finger tips - mild and wild. Having said that I'd also use the dual rate switch with less expo to make the plane a bit more touchy around neutral if needed. Once that 1st flight's done and the pucker factor has settled down you'll have a better idea of where you want to go. Mmmm, sorry if that was a bit long winded
Your engine looks like a good choice. Have you got any pics of progress so far?

About A year ago while reveiwing the plans I noticed the control movement info was not published so I emailed the company and the response was 5/16 ail. 1.5 ele. and 2.0 rudd. both directions. The aileron seems to little. Anyway I will cover it with monokote to resemble Chris Sperou`s Pitts. No pictures of the model yet just Sperou`s Super Stinker.

Flew it yesterday, felt good, fokker fan you are right, 5/16 aileron is slow rolling and smooth but not enough. No pictures in the air. Rick

Good to hear you got it finished, well done. I must get some more done on mine ... too many projects on the go. No pics in the air, but how about some on the ground?

I think it flys well It feels like the Weeks Solution I had a while back. I have 10 flights on it now. The roll rate could be more but it is smooth. Been flying it at Georgia Jets on pavement and the grass runway. No pictures of it in the air but I did see someone with a camera last time I was out. Maybe they took some pictures ,I don`t know. Anyway I like it and it was worth the time and effort to build. Waiting for better weather now. Rick
