Gee Bee R4

I just got one of this Gee Bee R4 from Austars (http://www.austars-model.com/dispdet...01132326514787), has not started building it yet. Does anyone have an R4 out there? Can only find one poor thread from 2009, but maybe there are some out there now?

Would like to hear about your experience with this plane... Engine size, Servo choice, things to do and not do, etc.

That is truely an awesome plane. I just finished a 97 in. Pacific Geebee Sporster. Please keep us posted! I would imagine you will want a DA 170 for your power. That seems to be a favorite.

Sounds like it should work. People have been using way bigger engines in the Airworld R3 (which is bigger and heavier), but the Czech R3 from http://www.jkmodels.cz/index.php?opt...d=19&Itemid=19 apparently flies with an 80 ccm MVVS and it is only slightly smaller.

RE: Gee Bee R4

I hope so!

The prototype was flown with a 106 cc engine. The guy who flew it wrote to me that it could use a little more power, so I hope that an 150 cc will do it.
And thanks for the link... !

I'm a bit confused about which site is the Czech shop.... This one also comes in English and German:
and there's price lists and a gallery there too. Lots of pictures of their design.

Now the Gee Bee got the engine and radio installed. The weight is 20.4 kg empty (dry) and without batteries.
Now I need to program the radio and cut some wire for the wings.
Here is a few pictures

RE: Gee Bee R4
Are you getting good center of gravity without adding weight?

I think it needs some graphics for a more lively look. Do you have anything planned?

RE: Gee Bee R4
I haft to add approx. 1 kg weight in the nose. An 250 cc engine would probably do it, but I have a 150 cc so.... I need some more weight. Take-off weight will be about 23 kg [X(]

I will test fly it before I start to do the creative work with paint ect. I have not planned anything yet, still thinking. Any good suggestions?

RE: Gee Bee R4
For the tail and wings, some registration numbers and/or racer style logos might do... or maybe some imaginary air pirate insignia, like in the Crimson Skies game.

That white area on the nose is huge. Maybe break it with some dark stripes or chevrons?

That was a new one for me, good idea! Tank you... I will take that in my considerations....
