Pull/pull and CF pushrod questions
 

Hi,
1) I'm installing a DHS pull/pull rudder in my RC Guys Decathelon. I've never done a p/p and not sure how you go about adjusting the cables after installing.

There will be threaded eyes on either end of the Kevlar cables and one end has a ball link, the other will go to a Hangar 9 swivel clevis horn on the rudder.

How do you get tension on the cables? I assume you can't just turn the threaded eyes, as this would twist the cables. Do you detach the ball link from the servo arm, adjust, and then reattach it?

2) Another question:
I got carbon pushrods for my split elevator and ailes. They came with steel ends that will thread into H9 swivel clevises on the control surfaces. If I also have threaded ends at the servo, what fitting should I use? If its to be another ball link, will a nut on the threads keep the rod from self-adjusting?

Sorry for being so ignorant, it's just that all my experience is in 60 size and down.

Sorry I missed your second ??
I would use a ball link on the servo. A locking nut is not necessary as the threads will fit real tight and your adjustment isn't going to move.

I have several posts in he SD thread. Page 69 post 1772 shows most of the install you are asking about. It sounds like you will be building a SD very similar to mine. I used the tensioning system on the pull-pull set up bild 3 in post 2 above linked for you. I used SWB manufacturing control arms on all my servos except the throttle. I used Ball links on the control arms and the heavy duty Dubro clevis sets on the control surfaces. I will try and look up the Dubro parts I used for the control horns, they arte the heavy duty ones. Also note I crossed the pull pull cables and I have a picture of this back on page 68 post number 1692. Also shown on that post number is the tensioning system Bild 3 is talking about, a good picture of it.

The carbon fiber pushrods are very simple to make and install. Again, look at some of the pictures of what I did in the SD thread. That thread full of great data for the SD. Right now I am working on my choke set up. When I balanced the plane I only had to add several ounces to get the balance point at the CG, which is important. Hopefully maiden flight sometime in May when the weather gets better. Any questions ask, I will try and help you if I can. My SD looks real nice, but like you will find the plane has it share of issues. Nothing too bad though.

From Dubro I used the Dubro HD Pull Pull Set-up number 883. The elevator halves and the ailerons I used Dubro number 913 heavy duty control horns.

This looks good, but I am trying to understand how the tensioning occurs without twisting the cables? Do you disconnect the attachment at the servo, get tension and then reattach?

I used the exact tensioner bld 3 linked you to. I tensioned mine installed in the plane. Go out to the mfg website and drop them a line. Maybe they will send you directions?
