Solartex is so much easier to work with than Monocote or other films. Just heat and pull, and you can easily cover a tennis ball... I found that the weave of the fabric is a bit open, and it is easy to get dirty (exhaust and such). I got good results with the application of a polyuretane in a can (you can use glossy or not). It is great if you want to paint on top. Since I switched to 21 Century, it is pre-painted, and goes on easy (in my opinion). Never had a problem of sagging covering with either product. A buddy of mine covered his 1/3 scale (Sopwith Pup) and painted it with latex using a foam roller. Perfect finish!

i can see it getting dirty, even tho the power will be electric. i will be giving it 2 coats of nelson water poly. i know some knock the paint, but i reallylike it.

i,m using white and it seams like an exact match to monokote white. and i will shoot the whole plane anyway so the match will be perfect

the decathlon was going to get the monocote treatment, but after covering the cub in solartex, change in plans. the decathlon is getting solartex/paint finish. i have never done such a wrinkle free cover job with this many curves!

I was wondering if someone here could answer a question about hostetler plans. I recently got a set and was wondering what some of the symbols on the drawings meant. In particular there are little boxes in various places with x's in them, others diagonal lines, some one direction, some another. The ones that confuse me most are on the fuse box, they seem random yet not. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

not tro be nasty, but the reason it's dead is this thread is for a hostetler build where we compare notes. your project, while very interesting has nothing that we can relate to. imo

What did you guys use on your Hostetlers for tail struts? I'm building an AMR 35% and it shows using cable for the tail, which I'm nit going to do.

I used great planes 48" solid pushrods, cut to size and dubro 4-40 threaded ends.these are the ones that have a 4-40 bolt thru them. I made the fittings from copper strips

HI Marcus, Joe Ludwig here I have talked with you some time ago. You had sent me a full description of how you apply the decal trim on your decathlons. I had that message saved so when I got the plane done I would use them. In the mean time my email crashed a some how they were lost. If you have time do you think you could send the instructions again? What are you up to these days are you still building? thanks in advance if you can if not it's understandable. Thanks Marcus,Joe
