Help, what to build from scratch?
1 Attachment(s)
Hi, Well were to start really? [&:] Around 2005 i collected the spitfire magazines with a weekly book and rc spitfire parts. And me being stupid spent the full £350+ After a while of trial and errors most of my parts went down the drain, But 3 years later I fell i need to do something with the left overs. I thought that the spitfire was a bit to original (not being offensive, yes i do love the classic plane) but to be fair i would like to build another type of plane. If you think I'm a bit stupid for doing this then feel free to complain. The transmitter / servos and engine isn't the best quality so keep with me. I have around £150 to spend (not a lot I know) but at 15 I don't think I really want to go OTT on this, If someone can find a good guide / plans or review on good designs I can follow or use then please feel free to post links and images. I'm looking for mainly a plane with a bit of history behind it and can have some beautiful war colours on it.. or even an up to date 'rare' rc plane that could of came from the cold war or some sort, I don't mind. I just thought as winter is coming that i could work on a project and then in summer next year or so I can take it out :) My electronics and engine: [ul][*] LEO 740 - 40-EP ABC[*] CODE 4 - 4channel radio control system[*] x4 CODE 4 AS - 322 servos[*] FRICOM NICD AA800mAh 4.8V battery pack[*] Prop - 25cm length [/ul] Here are some pictures of my old unfinished project. |

RE: Help, what to build from scratch?
The neat thing about building from scratch, is that you can build whatever you wish, and in whatever scale you want. If you are going to build from scratch, you need to draw your own plans, otherwise, you will be building from plans. There is a tremendous difference.

RE: Help, what to build from scratch?
ahh ok i writ it wrong then, I meant starting with a plan provided but I build the parts etc.
As I thought that the engine size / aero dynamics and other things like 'a nose to heavy' would matter a lot. If anyone can help me in that way please do. |
RE: Help, what to build from scratch?
Some people believe starting with a pile of balsa and a plan and making an airplane out of it wheather or not you accually drew the plan is scratch building. But that is an argument for another day. Start with a simple plane you can always cover it in military colors. Look in ama magazine there is tons of choices you can get for about 10 bucks or so. Find one with a constant chord wing that way you can cut all the ribs from a stack if you have access to a band saw or make one out of plywood and cut out the rest with an ecato knife. Keep it simple for your first try. There will be no greater feeling than watching something you made go up in the sky. good luck skyflyer
