Servos for Spacewalker 120
 

This is my first big airplane. I want to build the Seagull Models SpaceWalker 120 wth a 26cc gasoline engine. The plane takes six servos (two for ailons, two for elevator, one for rudder and one for throttle). My question is, what is the servo torque required for an aircraft this size. I will be using a 4.8 volt system. I appreciate any info you can provide.

I had a Great Planes 120 size Spacewalker / OS 120 4-Stroke. I used some old Futaba 9202's ( plastic gears ) I had kicking around and never a problem. I was using 6 volts so the servo torque would be in the 80 - 90 oz. in. range. Anything around this with a strong plastic or metal gear set would do.

If you are using a gas motor dont use plastic geared servos. get some metal geared servos maybe like a hitec 645mg at minimum

Hi. I have the Seagull models 120 spacewalker and I put a g22 on it. I used Futaba s3010 servos for all surfaces and a s3001 for throtle. At standard 4.8 volts the 3010s will yeild 72oz of torque. At 6 volts they are 90 oz.

I also made a hatch in the bottom of fuselage just forward of tail where antenna exits for battery and some weight to offset g22 for cg. hope this helps.

A buddy of mine just maidend his two weeks ago and he is running an XYZ 26cc gasser and running Hitec 635 servos all around except the rudder he has a 645. This plane is a real floater.
