Giant Aeromaster replacement

I'm wanting to find an airplane that is similar to the giant aeromaster. I lost mine due to raido failure. [&o]It landed in a river which is measured 15' deep. All was lost except half of the bottom left wing.:( I looked around and all I can find is Ultimates, Stearmans ect. I'm not sure which bipe to go with. I really like the aeromaster's gentle flight, yet it could still do wild aerobatics. Any ideas would be helpfull. Thanks.

friessen,

I'm about to assemble a GP Giant Aeromaster ARF with a converted Poulan 46cc engine I built using parts from BrillelliCustoms.com.

This will be my first biplane so I'm glad to hear that you liked yours.

I've thought about the GP Ultimate 1.60 (lots of wing area) with ~45cc gas engine or the GP Giant Scale Super Sportster with ~35cc gas:

I have a 40 sized sportster which flies nice and is surprisingly aerobatic.

Good luck.

Just noticed a thread on the GP Ultimate 160:

hmmmm ... we must breath the same air! I lost my giant aeromaster couple of years ago in the lake. was flying along nice as could be and the plane suddenly went nuts. loops snaps and then went straight down.. full throttle. found it in edge of lake on out skirts of town, about half mile from flying field. scared the crap out of me. I thought it was going down in the middle of Avon Park! Found the engine and a bag of balsa, think the largest piece was maybe inch square!

Hey thanks for the replys I'll try to call tonight and see if's still available. aa2dd-, atleast you were able to recover the engine. I lost every thing except 1 servo in the botom left wing. But I can truly relate to losing your plane to a watery grave. My heart sank when I saw mine airplane sink:((if you know what I mean. But if there is any more ideas out there, please keep them coming.

RE: Giant Aeromaster replacement

I Just talked to Bob, and he wants to keep it. He spent a lot of time building a new cowl for it and hants to enjoy his work before he parts with the plane. But he said he is going to Toledo and he is going to keep an eye out for one for me. And he told me that he thought you sent me to him and said thanks. (he was being sarcastic) Stangvil- the one on the market place, he won't ship and it is just a bit out of commuting distance. and the other one is Vagas and that is way out of driving distance. But does anyone have an idea about a similar plane out there? I know the ultimate is verry popular, but it seems that everyone has one, and i'm looking foe a bipe that is easy to fly and unique. Any more ideas out there, keep them comming. Donnie:D

A very similiar plane, as far as size and flying characteristics is the SIG giant SunDancer. I had a Aeromaster that I cartwheeled on takeoff and replaced it with the SIG Sundancer. Much, much better hardware and airframe - flys fantastic with a DL50. Unfortunately, SIG discontinued this ARF. But if you can find one, you will like it (there is one for sale in the classified here on RCU).

I fly a GP Giant Aeromaster built from a kit and love it. It's powered by a G62 and no, I don't want to sell it. You might search on Ebay or even here on RCU.

Seems like there is a big void of aerobatic biplanes in the 50 cc to 62 cc size. Not sure why.

RE: Giant Aeromaster replacement

I was lucky enough to find a GP Giant Aeromaster kit a couple years ago....boy I paid a pretty price for it too!:D Anyway, it was a real joy to build and is an even better one to fly! I too, powered mine with a G-62 and a Vess 22B-makes for unlimited vertical and will hover @ 1/2 throttle. The more I fly it the better I like it. I did lighten it in many places-I would like to get some wheel pants for mine as they would dress it up real nice. I saw a kit for sale here not long ago and one on ebay as well-just got to keep your eyes open. When I built mine, I traced every single part in the box should I ever want to scratch build one.

RE: Giant Aeromaster replacement

The smartest thing you did was to trace all of the parts. Wish I had done that.

For those who may build a Giant Aeromaster in the future here is a posting of the modifications that I made to mine.

I finished one up last year. Has a G-45 in it and was covered to simulate a Stearman Navy trainer. Sorry, not for sale but I'm looking forward to the maiden flight (if it ever stops snowing out here). It's a shame it was discontinued.

RE: Giant Aeromaster replacement

I can tell you that personally there is nothing out there that flys as good as the aeromaster. I had a RCCF 50cc with a 20-12 and it flew like a dream. Soft controled flying but it could also fly great percision acro with awesome vertical. It was sort of the same thing as getting out the old trainer and doing touch and go's just to fly something that is easy, safe, and fun after you spent a week flying an overpowered extra trying to make it do things that isn't natural. I really miss that plane. But I have been looking at the SIG sundancer. it seems to be very compairable but I don't know how it handles. we'll see:eek: what haapens. But again if anyone has a lead, let me know. Thanks

RE: Giant Aeromaster replacement

If you can find a Sig Sundancer, I think you will be pleased with how it flies. I found it very comparable to the Aeromaster as to flying characteristics. The area where it excels is in the quality of the hardware vs the Great Planes Aeromaster. I also find it easier/quicker to assemble/disassemble at the field (neither of the two being quick, however). And its bright colors (compared to the white of the Aeromaster) makes it much easier to keep track of in the sky.

I have a kit built aeromaster that I fly with a saito 1.80 FS turning a 18-6 prop and it fly's great. I am sure that it fly's more scale than the ones with big 2 strokes but it flies and sounds great. I put it on craigslist for sale and got no responses so I decided to keep it. I offered it complete, engine, servos, included for $400. the engine is worth that but no one wanted it. too bad, their loss. woodyb.
