Cermark F16- electric???
OK, call me crazy......but I fell in love with this plane at the LHS today. What are the odds of doing an electric setup? Here's the specs....SPECIFICATION
Wing Span Wing Area Length Fly Weight Engine Radio Color
50" 755 Sq-in 66" 10.5 Lbs 60~90 2C 5 Ch White with thunderbird scheme Thinking of a nice brushless/Lipo setup. Looks like it can only clear about a 13" prop. Also, I must be able to use my current Lipo's in this plane. I have four Tanic 3s 2500's... I can buy a couple more if needed. So am I crazy or what?

RE: Cermark F16- electric???
Assuming these are 10C cells, the most practical setup for the packs you have is 6S2P. That gives you about 20 Volts at 50 Amps, or about 1000 Watts.
Given that the plane is going to have high wing loading, prop size limitations, and the need to put the power into speed instead of thrust... 1000 Watts isn't going to do it. A couple more 3S to make it a 9S2P would give you 1500 Watts.
Nah, you're not crazy.

RE: Cermark F16- electric???
Thanks for the info Matt. I'm having a hard time finding a motor that can spin a (in theory) prop fast enough to get the pitch speed 100+ mph or so. Plenty of thrust, no pitch speed. I've been messing around with the "free" p-calc to kind of get an idea of what motor might work, but, the selection is limited in that program. Any idea's on a motor? BTW those 4x Tanic packs are going into my Tiger .60 glow conversion, estimated at 800w.

RE: Cermark F16- electric???
I could not leave the LHS with out one! I have most of it together, and I am very impressed with what I got for the price. It is not perfect, but I am very happy with what I got, including the retracts. I have going into mine an Actro 32-3 on 8s4p. I should get at least 1500 watts and 100+ mph pitch speed from a 12-10 prop. I have found that with the Actro my balance is very close to the recommended CG with out the batteries so they will go in laterally just in front of the wing tube (nearly on the CG). The only changes I have made is to use two elevator servos (mounted on their side) set up as tailerons, program flaperons for the wing servos and I will use two servos for the retracts instead of three. I also removed much of the material from the forward fuselage bulkheads and I will carve out most of the firewall.
I expect it to rock!

Sean that is awesome!!! Make sure to post your flight results here!!! I almost bought one myself...but don't want to put in a glow engine, especially with that nasty tuned pipe sticking out!!! Did you do anything with the hole they have cut in the nose for the glow motor? Did you get the standard retracts or the "aluminum custom" ones? Thanks for posting!!! Oh...and pictures please!!! OMG I just saw you're in Celebration- I live in Winter Park!!! Gotta see it fly!!!

coolers
If you want to go inexpensive way, go with axi 4130/16 with 9s2p (15c kokam). Use 13x8 apc ( non e ) or 12x10e, 12x12e. 12x10e turns 11,000 static. My GP little toni was radar clocked at 108mph with this setup. Flight time is about 8min.

I'm turning a 15 x 10 on 3S 2P at 10,000 rpm, with the same AXI, I do not know what is wrong with your set up but somthings odd there, this is in a VMar Phantom II. Giving it some thought, your Li Po's may be the restricting factor on this i.e. cannot supply enough amps, my Flight Power Li Po's are 20c continuous, 30c bursts at 5000mah, what mah are the ones you are using.

Red Z06:
Have you flown your F16 yet? Your post on the setup makes it sound like a slam dunk easy setup. Let's follow this through and keep the thread active.
OH, one other thing, my wife wants a Z06 just like yours, better keep an eye on it.

RE: Cermark F16- electric???
OK I'm back in the game again. Any updates here? I now have my 4130/16 sitting here, with my 6S2P Tanic packs. Thinking about buying 2 more packs to make a 9S pack like Matt suggested. Any more ideas? I'm also looking at the Morris Hobbies T45, same price with retracts and oleo's installed: http://morrishobbies.com/product_inf...roducts_id=550

RE: Cermark F16- electric???
Ordered 2 more Tanic 2500 3S packs, I have the old 10-12C packs so these are all on sale, $58 each. So I've got the 9S3P Lipo's, now I need to decipher the AXI chart to be sure my 4130/16 fits the bill. Anyone who can run this through motocalc for me? Maybe a 12x10 prop or so?

I agree Coolers, it's winter time where most of the hobbiests live, no action until the ground hog comes out and sees his shadow.
I'm just sitting here waiting for somone to build one of these Cermark F16s and take some videos. Come to think of it, you just got one, right? Well, what's taking you so long building it? LOL
