No, I haven't converted an Easy Sport 40 to electric, but I have converted a RCM trainer and it's an attention getter everyplace I go. It's quite, clean, dependable, predictable, and it has good performance. Everyone seems to like it. I'm using an AXi 4120/14 brushless motor, 70 amp Jeti controller, ThunderPower 4S3P lithium battery, and a APC 13x8 propeller. Fly weight's approx. 6.5 lbs. According to the program, ElecticCalc, it has about 80-watts per pound at full throttle.
I put the same setup in an old Model Tech P-47 (about 9.5 lbs) and it flew "scale". I increased the battery to a 5S, changed the prop to a 13x6.5, and it preformed noticeably better, but the battery draw was very high. Now I'm in the process of installing an AXi 4130/16 with an 8S3P and the same 13x6.5. That should suit me nicely.
I'm also converting a new Hobby-Lobby 62" Monsun to electric. Originally I installed an AXi 4120/14 motor but changed my mind and replaced it with a smaller AXi 2826/10 motor. Hobby-Lobby's website says the Monsun's wing area is 643 sq. in. but my measurements and calculations show it to be closer to 495 sq. in., therefore the smaller motor will help keep the wing loading down while providing good performance.
At home, I make heavy use of the flight simulator, G-2, and one of my favorite planes is the Easy Sport. I've modified its parameters until it simulates my RCM quite well, so I've never had any surprises at the field. Well, one. Flaperons!
At the field, my RCM is my "test plane" as modifications are easy to do. In fact, I was planning to disguise it as an Easy Sport, but now I'm thinking of buying the genuine article. Of course, it will be electric!
Have you converted your Easy Sport to electric yet?
