Default Midwest Esquire Replica

I purchased a replica kit for the Midwest Esquire (the first R/C plane I built in 1957). I want to use an outrunner with Lipo battery. The kit does not list the flying weight of the plane, but it is rated for .15 to .35 glo power. I believe .20 glo would be about right. This will be my first electric.

The wingspan is 50 inches, it is a 3 channel trainer and as I remember flew very well with a worn out Cox .14 carrying a 67 1/2 volt "B" battery and an "A" battery (ah, those were the days). I weighed the kit in the box with the top of the box removed and it weighes 42 ounces. I don't know if that's a pretty good estimate of finished weight?

Looking at the Early R/C Models website, I see that their Livewire Champ (similar plane) is flying with an AXI 2820/10, a 11 X 7 APC prop, and a 3 cell 2000 mah Lipo pack.

Looking at the Hobby-Lobby catalog, I notice that the AXI 2814/10 or AXI 2814/12 seem to also be specified for this weight range.

I would appreciate a recommendation on choosing one of the above (or a completely different setup).

Thanks for your help.

George

Default RE: Midwest Esquire Replica

Check out the Vintage forum. There is a post about an electric Esquire there, complete with pictures.
