Uh.... yeah. Like I'd want to help you now.... But I'll be a little forgiving.
Here's what I need to know... what's the kind of .049? Is it a high speed plane, a low speed plane, aerobatic, a loafer, what?
Generally, the first step is to treat the model like it was originally a speed 400 being upgraded to brushless. And you pick your brushless off of that. Generally, the thing you'll want to pick is an outrunner brushless, otherwise you go with a slightly more expensive inrunner running something like a Cobri gearbox. Direct drive is really only suitable for really high speed aircraft (Execpt outrunner). With electrics, you cannot just ask for an electric motor that will work on an .049, I could probably come up with 60 different setups for .049 alone. I wont really go into the details of what specific motors are suitable for what, as it'd be a really... big.... post.

For someone who 'flies for Christ", you sure are demanding of others to do your work for you, not to mention impatient.
You will get all the respect from others that you give them first. A wise man once said something to that effect, I believe.
As a general rule, a Speed 400 brushed motor is a direct substitute for a .049 engine. It's not always that simple, but you've given us precious little information to work with.
You might as well have asked, "How much does a model airplane cost?"
Rick

The motor you are asking for depends on the type of plane you want it in. E flight is now indexing brushless motors in the same manner as the glow engines the only exception are the 1/2 A s which are in the range of the 400 to 480 outrunner direct drive. Hobby Lobby also has a nice description of the weight plane the various brushless motors will haul around the sky. They also have a service that will advise you on what motor to put in what plane if you answer a few questions on its specs. http://www.hobby-lobby.com/index.htm.

Man,
You might get a better answer somewhere else. Try fools.com for a more conprehensive and complete answer. Please don't call Hobby Lobby, I hate when thier 800 numbers are busy.
PS. Keep up the good work, spreading the good word about flying for Christ. I'm sure that Christ is really interested in your RC flying, and your gas to electric conversion experience. Gas to electric conversions have really been a rewarding religious experience for me, glad it affects you the same way. I, along with most others that fly, are often heard saying, when thier plane crashes, Jesus Chr..., what the heck happened?
