Old falcon 56 conversion
Recently i acquired an old Carl Goldberg Falcon 56 from a friend who hasn't flown it in years. I don't know crap about gas but i really like the plane. I have removed all the old mono/ultracote and have picked out some new colors. I really only fly electric and i want to make this plane flyable but make it electric. Can you suggest some motor, batt, and esc setups? It has a K&B .40 engine right now and i dont know its weight at the moment.
Thanks A lot
Edit: i was thinkin about either the Axi 2826 or axi 4120

RE: Old falcon 56 conversion
Hello!
I remember it well!
Falcon 56-
Approx. 5.5lbs
56" wing span, semi-symmetrical airfoil, rubberband mount
Built up stab- semi-symmetrical airfoil
40 size
The firewall and engine mount (both wood) should definately be cut out and replaced. The fuel tank area may need to be cleaned out as well. I remember that no amount of fuel proofing and epoxy could keep the oil from my K&B with the hoseclamp muffler from soaking the balsa in these areas down.
Take a look at an AXI 2826/10 or 12. It should be able to handle a plane of about 5.5 lbs on an 11"-13" prop. Your closer to the weight limit on the 10 than on the 12. This will allow you some wiggle room and the ability to get some performance if desired. The Falcon was marketed as a trainer. The semi-symmetrical air foil of the wing and stab should allow it to do a bit more.
A 40amp controller and a 3 to 5 cell LiPo battery should do you well.
