I have recently accuired a Sig Wonder. I was thinking of building it as an electric but I know nothing about electrics. Looking at the plans it appears quite a bit of weight could be removed if that is a factor.
Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated ie: components, set-up etc.

what is the wieght on the bare air frame? What size cells will fit and last but not least.....how much money do you have for a power plant? I have converted a Sig Kobra ( 44 inch wing ) to electric with a speed 400 size brushless and gear box.
Are you looking for speed or just to fly? I guess you have to figure out what you want and how much you are willing to spend and then go from there.
Hope this helps

Hi Dennis, thank you for your reply.
The weight on the box is 26-38oz. but I am assuming that is with a glow engine mounted, they recommend a glow in the range of .09-.19 I would think 38oz. corresponds with the .19 sized engine but I'm not sure. I also don't know what a .19 sized engine would weigh.
As far as cell size that would fit I'm also not sure, the fuselage bay is about
Length: 11 1/4"
Width: 2 1/4"
Height: 2 1/4"
but I don't know anything about electrics so I could'nt say what would fit in there.
Cost is another thing I'm not familiar with when it comes to electrics. I'm not overly concerned with cost for the most part. I would'nt mind spending about a hundred dollars maybe more.
I suppose for the most part I would just like to get into electrics. I would just like to try them, I'd also like to get away from the cost of fuel and the clean-up that goes along with it. I'm not to concerned with speed but I would like to have some performance. I would rather have longer flight times than speed.
I bought this intending to fly it on glow. In the mean time I purchased a Hangar 9 Aspire RTF (its electric powered) to fly at a local soccer field, I figured I could put the guts of it in the Wonder when I got tiered of it, Well the Aspire has'nt been such a great purchase. When I got it it was missing a canopy (they said they would send me a new one), in the meantime I put it together (exactly according to the directions). I had'nt charged the batt. yet but I plugged it in just to see what it would do, if anything. Well the motor started turning immediatly (very slowly) ,I tried to stop it with the transmitter-nothing, I tried the arming switch it came with-nothing, so I figured maybe it was because the batt was'nt fully charged .I charged the batt. I conected the batt, the motor started spinning full throttle. Tried Tx.-nothing, tried arming switch-nothing, then the speed controller starts sparking and smoking (setting-off all the smoke detectors), so I disconnected the batt and ran outside with it because I did'nt know if it would catch fire. All of this took about 5-10 sec. from the time I connected the charged batt. to the time I got it outside. I'm glad nobody was watching, I must have looked like an idiot (I prefer to sound like an idiot in here). Now they are going to send an ESC and a motor, I hope these components work.
So anyhow (back to the Wonder), I'm trying to figure out how I can make the Wonder electric without using the components from the Aspire, since I don't trust them. It has now become a quest.
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again, Yakseeker aka: John

Well if you dont mind spending a little cash that go brushless. I have my first one and i gotta tell ya. This thing makes the planes fly like there glow !!!!
You can find the Mega 1615/4 motor with controler on the internet for $139, and it comes with a free prop adapter. I have run this motor so much that if it was a can motor i would have had to buy about 3 of them buy now!! You can get KAN 950 cells for $1 a piece now ( just made an order for 96 cells. hehe ) and these are great cells. 8 cell pack only wiegh's 6 oz's. This motor combo is amazing! i have run it with gear box on a .25 size plane and on driect drive on Zagi's and HOB 1/12 war birds. Really fast on the d/d and about 6 mins motor run time.
Goto ezone and check some things out there. a bit more info onn electrics there than here.
