.40 Glow to Electric

I have a .35 to .40 size glow high wing airplane that I would like to convert to electric. Not sure exactly what model it is, I got it at a flea market without any gear. It's a 4 channel tail dragger, 50" wingspan, 39" fuse. Electric is new to me so I'd like a turnkey suggestion for converting to electric - speed control, motor, batteries, prop. I'm using an airtronics radio. Can anyone provide me with the components to convert?
Thanks in advance,
Craig

Without knowing anything other then it is a 40ish sized high wing tail dragger, here.

Going with a 14X6 APC "E" prop should give you around 125 ounces of thrust or 780 watts. A slow easy flying trainer can get by with 100 watts a pound. But it will be a slow flying plane.

Buzz,
Thanks for the response. Looks like the battery link you posted is the same as the motor link. Can you re-post the link to the battery you suggest for this setup? Also, I didn't measure the clearance in the front - not sure if I can put a 14" prop on it. Can I put something smaller on it?
Thanks,
Craig

Buzz,
Thanks for the battery info - do you think that Tacon 32 motor will be strong enough? Also, is there a smaller prop I can go with - 14" might be too big for that plane.
Thanks,
Craig

RE: .40 Glow to Electric

That is the one problem with E power, they use bigger props. I had to make new gear when I did a e conversion on a 60 sized plane. I had to go from a 12 inch prop to a 16 inch prop. Had to make new gear that was 2 inches taller.

If you can find a 12X8 3 blade prop, it will give you about 7 pounds of thrust. So, how much does your plane weigh?

RE: .40 Glow to Electric

The plane is a work in progress, there's no covering on it. The weight right now, with...servos, radio, main gear. Without...battery, no motor, no esc, no tail wheel, no prop...about 2.5 lbs. How much does the covering, power train weigh? Would that push it over 5 lbs?

Using webocalc, I'm coming up with 11x5.5 or 12x6 prop at 5 lbs. A 12" prop would be a little close to the ground.

I just converted a 40 size heckler to electric. went from a .56 saito to a turnigy g-46 550 kv motor, 60 amp speed control and a 3300 4s lipo(40 c)
I am impressed, first 8 minutes it has more power than the saito by quite a bit. hovers at 1/2-2/3 power. pulls out of a hover great. rest of the flight ( to 12.5 minutes) is still very spirited but not like the first 8. throttle management just sport flying i could easily see this thing run 18-20 minutes. next batt will probably be a 4200 4s. I am also going to switch out the 14/8 for a 15/6 or 8 for a little more thrust. AUW is 4 pounds, 48" wing span and 41" long. motor batt and esc is 29 oz's http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSCF5581.jpg
