HAH! The bane of modeling WWI birds, those rotary engines made for very short noses.
I am working on a 1/3 Pitts Special with the same problem. I am putting the batteries up in front of the firewall. The plane was nitro powered, and the engine was bolted to a small engine box. My motor needed to stand 2" off of that box, so I purchased 2" standoffs. But when I realized how much weight I was going to have to put in the nose to get it to balance, I changed plans. I am making a bigger motor box that will house the batteries right behind the motor, under the cowl. |

I am in the process of doing the Thomas Morse Scout.
Going with a Power up 32, 80 amp esc and 2 x 3 cell 2200 lipos and 12-6e prop. Made the battery hatch on the bottom just under the landing gear mount. I have another month before I am ready to fly but I see no reason why it shouldn,t be a good flyer. |

I'm finishing up my 1/6th busa pup. I plan on putting 2- 4 cell 2200 lipos right behind the firewall.... Finished it up and it balanced w/o any added weight.</p> |
