How to make a battery hatch in a glow to e conversion
I bought this awesome bh models p-40 from a guy who never finished it. I want to go electric, this is a glow model WITHOUT a battery hatch. Anyone any suggestions on putting one in?
I know if I have to take the wing off after every flight I'll never fly The darn thing. The covering is this Cool printed vinyl. |
I did a P-40 once. I cut the cowling just below the exhaust stacks, front to back, so it was removable, and slid the batteries in from the front.

I'm thinking that's what I might do. How did you attach the 'chin'?

A little complicated to explain. I fabricated a ply doughnut glued to the top of the cowl. I glued two 3/16 aluminum rivets (one on each side) with the head toward the spinner, and the shank projecting toward the fuselage. That gave me two "pins". I glued 2 tabs to the chin, that had matching holes such that I could angle the chin into place, then raise up the aft section into position, and screw attach to the fuselage through the rear upper corners of the chin.
