Jim Pepino plans 80" P-39 Airacobra
5 Attachment(s)
Built this as electric last year. All my planes are electric, now, and I have to give a lot of credit to Markus Meuller's "ecalc" for helping me select the right motor/prop/battery/esc combinations.
My P-39 is the "C" model, of which only twenty were built and delivered to Selfridge Field, Michigan in 1940-41. The C had all the guns in the nose (2 .50 cal, 2 .30 cal, and the 37mm cannon) and did not have the short dorsal filler in front of the vertical fin. She has a Turnigy G-160 245, a 17x8 MAS prop, a pair of Zippy 6S 5800 30c in series, and a Castle 85 HV ESC. Performance is nothing short of brilliant. All up weight is 22 lbs, for a wing loading of 44 oz per square foot. With 45 degrees of flap, she lands really slow and easy. Retracts are Sierra Giant. The 5" 'cobra spinner is from a custom fabricator in Australia. |
