Chea-Pass Float Plane COnversion
 

I am in the final stages of a Chea-Pass Float Plane kit from House of Balsa. The kit calls for a .10 to .12 2 cycle, but I am thinking about adding to my electric collection with this one. I have never done a conversion before, and was wondering what size motor I should be looking at?

You shouldn't be looking at the motor until you figure out what size battery you need :) With an electric, the power comes from the battery, not the motor. Once you figure out how many cells, and the number of Amps you'll be drawing, it's much easier to figure out which motor you need.

The advertised AUW of this plane is 2 pounds. I would recommend a minimum of 75 Watts per pound, or about 150 Watts total for the plane. For a lightweight plane, that's 10 KAN1050 NiMH cells running at 15 Amps.

Is there room for a 10" prop? I'd recommend an Astro 020 Geared system with a 10x7 prop with the above battery.

Thanks Matt. Just got out of the shop for the day, but I have a 10x7 laying around I will measure. Thanks for the tips on the batteries. I have lots of room for batteries on this bird so that shouldnt be a problem.
