Convertiing the Wing Aircraft Hellcat

1 Attachment(s)
I would like to convert my Wing Hellcat to electric. After seeing some of the new technology and power involved I am willing to take a chance. I being a rookie at eleectrics dont know what equipment, motors, batteries, speed coontrollers or even chargers I would need to have or acquire to make it into the air. The numbers on the Hellcat from wing aircraft are 61" ws, 671 square in ches of wing area at 10lbs.

RE: Convertiing the Wing Aircraft Hellcat

lots of possibilities:
1) stay light, use lipos if your budget can do it
2) moderate cheap combo setup. axi 4130/16 with 7S2P 2200 lipo and 15*10E apc prop and a jeti 77A.
hobby lobby sells the combo motor + controller.
Charger astro 109
All that is a big investment and I would not advise you to do it w/o prior experience on a smaller model that you could use as a test to learn all the basics in electric flight....

We'll help you eliminate the "chance" part of your conversion to electric power.

I think the [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/brushless-axi4130.htm]AXI 4130/16[/link] suggestion is a good one. However, you may find either a 6s configuration of Lithium cells or a 20-cell GP3300 pack more practical and affordable.

You can more easily buy 3s Lithium packs and 10-cell GP3300 NiMH packs and put two of them in series. You could even buy 20 GP3300 cells yourself and create your own pack to reduce cost further.

Use the new [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/jetiblue.htm]Jeti Advance PLUS[/link] 77-amp Opto ESC and get the inexpensive programming card. I would also suggest using a [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/ubec.htm]UBEC[/link] and [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/grprop.htm]Graupner Super Nylon[/link] 15x8 3-blade prop like I did on my [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/article_display.cfm?article_id=319]Hangar 9 Corsair[/link] conversion.

Good luck!
