intercepter jr to electric
 

any ideas on how to convert this , i have the plans and need the foam wings cut, is there a good foam cutter outthere?

There are too many items called "Intercepter". Do you have a link or some specs on it?

greg , this airplane was in the august M. A. N. issue

its got a foam wing thats 38 inches

weighs 13 oz

designed to fly with a .061 rc engine

the wing is symetrical

the fuse is 24 inches long and 1.5 inches wide inside

what i was wondering was if you can fit a bat pack and a speed control
in the small fuse

Without seeing the plans, I can make a few observations that you might consider. From the size of the fuselage and nose, you may want to try using a simple and inexpensive Speed 300 motor in a direct drive setup using a Zagi "spoon" 5x4 prop on 6-7 cells NiCd/NiMH or 2-cell Lithium pack. A 10amp ESC would work well with this combination.

The [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/speedplus.htm]GR6365[/link] Graupner Speed 300 PLUS motor has the ESC built right onto the back of the motor. The [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/slowprop.htm]HLFK5555[/link] 5x4 prop will press fit right onto the motor.

greg, thanks for the great info.

the only thing i don't understand is the battery setup

which is better the nicads or the lithium set up?

i just bought a kit from wing MFG and mabey i can get them to cut the wing for the intercepter.
another question i have is , how does the engine mount? does it come
with some sort of engine mount?

Dan,

Whether you use NiMH cells or Lithium cells is a design choice you'll have to make when you determine the space available in the fuselage. Since you may not find a Lithium cell that can fit inside the fuselage, you choice would then be NiMH over Lithium or NiCd. Today, there are so many new NiMH cells available that you can rule out using NiCd cells.

I'll throw out an idea. I'd look at a mega 16/15/5, a TP 3s 2100 lipo and an apc 7x5 eprop. I'm using this on a Great Planes Slinger with good results. I like the balance between speed and thrust. I think that the battery would fit. This motor or the speed 300 can be mounted several ways. It can be bolted in from the front using a firewall, you can use a clamshell mount and either rails or a glow mount, or you can roll a motor tube from 1/64" ply and mount the tube from the firewall behind the motor.
