Harmon Rocket Conversion

1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone...

Been working on my first e-conversion after flying park stuff for a while and wanted to get opinions... I saw this kit and my brother got me her as a gift...

Summary as follows:
Harmon Rocket (50 inch / 558 sq in wing)
E-Flight Power 46
Castle 60
Master Airscrew 13X8.5
Flight Power 14.8v 5000 mah
Spektrum DX7
JR Digital 821 all around
Static pull of 65 amps max & 960 Watts
Approx flying 56 amps & 830 Watts
6.6 lbs vs 6.4 for Gas
Approx 120 watts / lb
Major Mods included
Battery Tray creation (all forward for cg)
Cooling holes throughout and cowl
Exit air holes in back
Support rods for Horiz stab
I flew her once last weekend with a XOAR 14X7 electric prop, and while ok, did not have quite the speed I was looking for, so I hope the 13X8.5 will do the trick.

Anyway, first one of these so I would truly TRULY appreciate feedback and comments...

Many thanks!

RE: Harmon Rocket Conversion

That is a well balanced power unit you have. By switching that prop you only picked up .5 of pitch. If not the same brand prop it is possible that both props will have the same thrust. You can try the same diameter but add at least an inch or inch plus .5 to the pitch. For more rpm you will have to go to a five pack but make sure the motor will handle it. Most of the name brand motors are rated conservatively and you can control the heat by propping down a bit. The Harmon Rocket was simply an RV homebuilt with larger engine and higher landing gear to handle the larger prop. It is a nice airplane but is rather draggy. Norm

Thanks for the feedback....

Still learning this stuff... but going from a 14X7 to a 13X8.5, dont I pick up 1.5 of pitch?

You are correct, I misread the numbers, that would be a good place to start but I believe that a combo of more voltage and more pitch might get you for MPH. Norm
