Weight of Eaglet 50

After MANY months of building my Goldberg Eaglet 50 and converting it to electric power, I'm down to covering it and doing the detail work.

So far I've purchased a E-flite 25 motor, a 70 ESC, a 6 channel Futuba, fabricated flaps and alierons, and 2 1/4" wheels.

I decided to weigh it last night (and laid the two monocote rolls on top of it) with all the servos, the reciever, receiver battery, wheels windows, motor, ESC, (basically everything that will be in the airplane) etc. It weighed 70 oz and that doesn't include a 4800 mv battery (which I looked up and weighs about 16 oz) . The box says it should weigh no more than 40 to 50 oz.

Am I in trouble with that total weight?

Can the 4800 mv battery also be used to power the receiver? If I could eliminate the receiver batter it might save a few oz.

RE: Weight of Eaglet 50

I called Great Plans who is the distributor for Carl Goldberg products. They gave me the phone number for Hobbyco(217-398-8970). I talked with Donna who was VERY helpful.

She said that the 40 to 50 oz listed on the box is the empty weight: no radio equipment (receiver, servos, batteries, fuel tank, engine/motor, or covering). Man what a relief it was to hear that! She did ask me what the total weight was and I told here with the E-flite 25 motor & propeller, the ESC, the 5 Futuba servos & wiring, all the linkages, three wheels, the rolls of covering set on the airplane--not installed yet, the receiver battery, and adding the 16 oz for the motor power battery, it came to about 85 to 90 oz. She said that was perfectly fine. Another whew!
