Hello all, in the weeks before I tried with different muffler pressure with no avail... always dead stick landings, with some fin and stabilizer damages that put a stop on the matter, until finally the Enya TN carb arrived.
Today I managed to try the engine ( but no flyng due to strong gusty winds..):
it improved dramatically! Now with muffler pressure an APC 11X7, 5% nitro and a new Enya 4c plug, the minimum could be set in 2700 rpm with good transition, max set to 10,500 (peak 10,700) good midrange.
The real minimum probably could be set in 2400 rpm, range but I want to try in air before fine tuning idle needle and minimum rpm. I noticed that after full throttle, with still some pressure in the tank, the minimum slows 200-300 rpm form some seconds than slowly picks up to 2,700 -3000, it could stay there for 5 minutes with very good transition when opening throttle.
I will confirm in the following weeks, hoping for better wheather!.

Paolo

PS: The new TN carbs had still several swarfs in the barrel (due to grinding machining), so look carefully before using anithing new!

Hi!
First of all ...do not count how many turns you have the high speed needle open! You set the needle by ear!!! How many turns the needle is open or closed is a non issue!
The 11x7,5 prop is a little bit too small for an ENYA .53 if it turns over 10000 rpm. You should aim for a rpm around 9000-9500 instead and that means using a larger prop. Try a 12x6 for a low winged sport plane or semi scale plane like a P-51 mustang with a wing span of around 140cm and a 13x5 for a high winged trainer like plane like a CUB but aim at around 9000-9500 rpm.
Some thing is wrong with your tank set up or needle setting if you cannot get a reliable idle to around 2000-2500 rpm at idle without using a 1,2V Nicad battery.
Placing of the tank is very important (in a plane) so follow the rule: Center of tank inline with fuel intake orifice in carb when plane sits horizontally. And do not use a bigger tank than a 10 oz tank.

Jan - the Enya likes to rev. They can go as high as 13,000rpm peak, so a ground peak of 11,500-12,000 is just fine. They won’t unload as much as a 2-stroke. Enyas tend to spit from the carb if over-propped. It makes a mess. The carb can be hard to get set just right if the engine is overpropped too.

Hi!
the rpm I mentioned is for best flying performance using the best props ( RAM. Graupner G-sonic and APC) not what the engine could rew...which is unimportant in sport engines.

In your opinion. And your opinion is not always right.

Here in Europe where we use 0-5% nitro it is my nearly half century experience that what I mentioned about rpm for four strokes and recommending props brands is correct. Try it yourself and see if I'm right

Have you been losing sleep over that one?

Gosh, I’m really sorry. I’ll try really hard to not let it happen again.

Update, after some flights, :
I confirm that the TN carb cured my Enya53, now with proper set low needle I have 2400 min with 10,500 max (peak 10,700) on APC11x7 and 5% nitro. I will try now also 12X6 prop, to understand what suits better my plane/flight envelope. Thank you for suggestion given.
