Bad news from Webra
Dear Webra Customer,
We are so sorry to announce you that our company
WEBRA Modellmotoren GmbH & Co. KG in A-2551 Enzesfeld, Eichengasse 9 - AUSTRIA
is in bankruptcy and cease to Thursday, December 23, 2010 its activities for model engines and electronics products.
The reason why this happens was the low cost products made in China which comes more and more for toys as for the real model building. Therefore found the market lower and lower interest in our high quality products.
By this way we will thank you for your good co-operation in past and we will wish you all the best and many business success in future.
Remain with
„Many happy landings“
Yours WEBRA-Team

RE: Bad news from Webra
Very very sad news to see an old established firm like Webrathrow the towel.
In the 50-ies I grew up with Webra engines, and their quality has always been beyond dispute.
Times are changing though, and asthe market shifts to electric power, there is increasingly less room to move for small engine producers.

That is sad. I hope they survive and come out of bankruptcy. But it won't be the same if it does.
Maybe MECOA will get the stuff to make the engines with.

RE: Bad news from Webra
Well this is what happens when a society changes from one where people look to educate themselves, and invest themselves in an intrest, to one where people are looking for entertainment with minimal input. Im sorry but all this ready to fly foam garbage is just that, entertainment. To each their own, but unfortunately the masses drag down everything with them. Grrrr dont get me started....luckily my daughter will grow up exposed to all things mechanical and science related......

I can agree that MECOA doesn't seem to be all too interested in making the engines from all the stuff they bought.
I think MECOA is like FOX, they have a bunch of lucrative government contracts to manufacture various widgets and that takes precidence over the model airplane engines of course.

This is my Webra engine collection, one ringed .91, one AB? .91 with Davis Diesel head, one Speed .61f, one SilverLine .61, one SilverLine .40 and most of another SilverLine .40 in the little box. I called ApexHobbies to see if they have any Webras for some of you who might be looking and Bobby said they have one Speed .40 and a blackhead, he did not know the size of the blackhead.

RE: Bad news from Webra
Was hoping to buy a Hanger 9 Phoenix 7 and hang a new Webra on it. Maybe a Rossi or Novi Rossi? Perhaps a Jett but was hoping to pay less than that. No I will not buy a Chinese engine, even a well built one. Not on a Phoenix.

I am suspicious now. The bad news is only at two forum websites, here and one other, when I did a Google check.
Webra's website is still up and running OK.
So this might be a huge prank of some sort.

I can't find anything in news search's either, but Webra might not be large enough to show up there. Also the poor broken English. The translations on their website is very readable. I don't think they would have used rubes to tranlate their press release. In fact the broken English sounds a bit Asian, but could be from anywhere.

Sad to see the Webra engine is not in production more cause bankruptcy.. i has some webra diesel engines and a 4 stroke Webra T-4, all made in Germany, none from Austria. The engines are well made to last long forever.

RE: Bad news from Webra
Sadly it seems to be true.
Look at this:
http://www.wirtschaftsblatt.at/archi...50780/index.do
...and try to translate it with google or yahoo.
Thats a website from an austrian business related Newsletter that informs here of
opened Insolvency proceedings in austria. The site is dated 12/10/2010.
The translation on WEBRA's website to english can be made from an external company
that offers translation services so the translation is good.
The mailing is possibly from an employee that has tears in his eyes...
Kind Regards,
Holm

RE: Bad news from Webra
Guys, this is not a prank as far as I know. I want something powerful for my GP Learjet that would fit into a 46 footprint. The OS 55 doesn't seem to fit the bill, so it is either a Rossi job, Jett or Webra. Here in South Africa I've seen some guys with Webra engines, so I thought I would contact Webra and ask about a S/African distributor. I posted their reply in the first posting.
Send me your email address and I would forward you their reply including all the headers, if there is any doubt. Personally, I would love for this to be a prank.
Maybe Xenalook from Canada could take this one over as well? He rescued the Cox Babe Bee stuff and made a business out of it - see the 1/2A forum.
Yours in sadness

I think this might be a continuing trend for our beloved glow engine companies. I loved my Webra engines but once I switched to gas and electric there was no going back.

Isn't China where the Phoenix 7 is made? I don't know - honestly.
Guys, I hate to say this to you, and I don't mean it in a condescending manner at all, but just give up worrying about where the supplies come from and just be glad that they are being made by anyone.
If the current economic depression takes another nose-dive, and it might, it is likely that China won't be producing anything after a year or so and modeling will be done strictly with used equipment.
I remember reading about such trials from WWII modellers saying that some products were difficult to impossible to obtain during the war. Folks used to give we boomer children old magazines from the war era and one could get the impression that it was difficult at best to afford a new engine unless you were an adult with a really good paying job. They were fortunate in being able to not worry about glow fuel proof paints and glues, since gas and rubber were pretty much it back then. Just like ham radio, the further that you go back in time, the more science and skilled technology you will find to participate at even the lowest levels in the flying hobby.
