Thunder Tiger engines
I have 2 TT 46 pro, 2 TT 54 FS and a TT 91 FS. All run great and I think they are better than the OS equivalents. They will take quit a bit of abuse and keep running. They just take a while to get broken in so be patient. :O)

I've got at least one of every thing from the .15 to the 1.20 including the .46, .50 and .70 heli engines.
I haven't got a TT 4-stroke yet.
All have been fantastic engines except for the old .46 heli, which had a low needle issue.

TT 120 pro ??? problems ???
having a TT120 pro (ringed rear exhaust) in front of an Edge 540 (2metres) 12-1/4lbs. Silencer is home-made pitts style.
Since today run well on 16-6 Master Airscrew. Only some problems appeared at first runnings. These was no good transition from idle to max and vice versa. Unstable idle ( due to fuel pump ????)
Some losted time on bench running (about 2) and after that unawares the engine was running like a CLOCK. Stable from idle to max revving.##@@##!!! Some flicks to start (at least 8-10)
Revving figures was between 9600-10300. Fuel from straight to 10% nitro.
Flying performance on Edge's prow was amazing. Vertical performance was unending from earth to God's throne. Hoverings on 3/4 throttle.
Last Sunday and after the 4 flight some noises appeared.
Noise was growing for 5 mins or less and ...... Hand cranking was so beautifull like that old train's melodies.
Crankshaft's Rear Bearing (size 6904) went out.
Total time is less than 15 operating hours. Is that normal??? A master Bearing harm???
Having two BGX and oper. time over 200 hours ( older one ) and NO PROBLEM. NO NOISES or other melodies???. First flick start etc.etc.

They break crankshafts.
How the hell do you brak cranckshatt ? Aren't your engines flooded with fuel when you try to fire them up with your starter ?
Never seen that before...

No on the test stand. Happened to 3 motors this way. Motors were running and just quit after about 2 mins. The break was the same on all three cranks.

A few comments and opinions:
Years ago when TT first started out their quality was "iffy". I saw a .15 that broke the conrod when someone flipped it (in a RTF). Over the years they improved by leaps and bounds. I have two .10's, two .15's and a .25 (all CL). They run fine. Excellent quality.
On the chrome vs nickel question, several things come into play. Chrome is much harder on tools when you hone it. Chrome is much more TOXIC to the environment so handling and processing is probably a problem. I understand that some countries do not allow chroming...but that may be rumor. This translates to more expensive.
One of the reasons for running ABC and ABN engines up to temp quickly is the tremendous stress imposed on the internals until the cylinder expands enough to stop "pinching" the piston. By getting up to temp quickly, the loads decrease and allow the moving parts to burnish their surfaces without undue wear. This is especially true during the first couple of minutes. By lessening the load, moving parts can ride on a film of oil and carry away particles that break off during the break-in process (the dark stuff in the exhaust).

It means ABC/ABN engines break-in should always be carried out during summer days then ? Or you could just heat your engine gently (heat gun or...) ?

Another way would be to set up everything (assuming a test stand) in the house or other heated area, then take it outside and run it.
When I mentioned getting the engine up to temp quickly, I was referring to running it in a slightly rich two cycle ASAP and not running it in a four cycle mode. You can hear the engine pick up RPM as the cylinder expands.

Great Engine - bought itin 96-97 - so can't be sure whether it ABC or ABN. Sure runs like it is singing.
Incidentally I run my engines on 75% methanol + 25 % pure castrol oil (no nitro - cause I can't find it easily).
Once the needle is set, it holds the setting for a long time. I must have logged over 75 flights with my TT 46 Pro - still has plenty of punch

Hi everyone,
Can any one tell me what the tubing size (OD) and the thread size is for the exhaust on the TT F-91S four stroke ?
I can't seem to find it on any site I've looked at and I need to make up an exhaust tube with a different bend in it for my Cessna.
Hope this is the right place to ask.

Just engines has 4 strk elbows running from 90 to 135 degrees worth a email to see is same as asp/OS thread size It is on his site under accessories 4 stroke stuff

I have a TT46 in my RV-4. Great engine, real powerhouse, easy to tune etc, etc. I would buy another again in a heartbeat.
I have a TT61 in my Cloud dancer. Foe some reason this took me a while to get the tuning right. Now it is ok the engine runs very well, although it is not as good as the 46 (but it does idle better). I feel considering the physical size and weight of the engine it is underpowered. It is substantially bigger than the 46 but not much more powerful. If I had to do it again I would get a 75 engine.

Tower muffler huh... I have heard a lot of talk on RC Universes about these... Guess it is a better design for better back pressure... Under you someone said to remove the baffell... Could I just do that??

I have 4 TT 46 Pro, 1 TT 42 and 1 TT 25. They are all great. Had some problems with the needle valve leaking on the 42 probably because I had it on and off numerous times. I have the Tower Hobby muffler on all the 46's. They seem to add about 5% more RPM. Not only are they good but also cheap - an awsome combination.

I'll echo the sentiments of everyone on the TT .46 Pro. This is a real powerful engine, and has pulled me out of some tough spots when landing in gusty winds. However, stay away from the TT .070.

Bought my first TT, a TT120 RP (1.20 2-stroke, rear exhaust) for my new patternship and it does really well in the Zen 120. A little long on the break-in period (it's a ringed engine) but I couldn't be happier. Especially for the price! The transition is fantastic and the low-end is getting better and better each time out as the ring seats. I'd get another if I needed one.

Thunder Tiger Engines are great and powerful in fract, my brother and I have a Thuder Tiger Trainer his has a Thunder Tiger GP42 Engine, am not sure if his hasplain bearing or no bearings anyway my Trainer has an O.S 46 LA My brothers Engine sounds much more powerful and is much more powerful[].It sounds so loud that some people asked him if he has a 61 on it.
So time passed and now I ordered the Sukhoi SU-31 for a 46 engine , And for that only reason I bought a Thunder Tiger GP 61 Engine for the Sukhoi.

I've got the Pro .46 and am on my second .91 four stroke. My first 91 was a great engine, but was needing its second set of bearings after many, many hours of great flying. Towers price was edging into OS territory on the TT, so I paid a little more to "upgrade" to the OS. The OS shook so bad throughout the entire rpm range it loosened everything on the plane. Can't keep a muffler on it, and have tried the teflon tape and also red Loctite. That was with the exact same prop and spinner that was on the TT. I will send the OS back. Not wanting to miss the flying season this summer while OS decides what to do, I bought another TT! What a jewel! And they still provide you with nice tools, feeler gauges, and extra o-rings. OS doesn't. Now, I'm a big OS fan and have had many. But, starting with the LA series, it seems they are taking some short cuts here and there. I hope my OS 91 was just one that slipped thru the crack and it will be replaced/repaired. Get the TT, you won't regret it!
