Default Saito 125 question

Hi all

I have a Saito 125 which I am still currently running in. So far I have followed the instruction manual and have run three tanks through it. When I turn the prop by hand, I can hear a distinct 'bearing' type sound. There is no play at all and no grinding feel,it all feels very smooth and runs fine. Just wondering if this sound is normal or if I should worry?

Thanks
Wes

Hi,
I had the same problem... itws apear as common Saito problem which caused by lack of cam gear lubrication ( the excess oil inlet located on the backplate and as result minimal amount of oil get into the cam gear area ) ,
you should remove the valve cover and then drip oil into the valve tubes

Wes, make sure you're not mistaking the air rushing in and out of the vent for a bearing noise, it can be anything from a low moan to a high pitched whistle. The cam gets lubed just fine Saitos.

On any new Saito, I like to pull the valve covers and run a few drops of oil down the push rod tubes. This should make sure there is a little lube in the cam and rocker arm area prior to that first run.

From taking a lot of new Saito engines apart, some have Moly grease on the rod journals, rocker arm pivots, and the cam.

Others are dry as a bone.

Depends on who put them together at the factory.
