Nitro engine Magnum 40 gp
I just got an nitro rc plane form a frend. It has not been used or maintaind for 2 years. I got it started and it runs fine but when i took the glow igniter off the engine ran for 10-15 seconds but then died. I know its a magnum GP 40 engine thats all i know about the engine. I think the fule is over a year old does that make a diffrence? If you can give me any information on the engine or whats wrong with it that would be helpful. Thanks.

Fuel sholdn't go bad in a year even if exposed to the light. Sounds like your idle mixture is running rich. Dying after removing the ignitor is a sure sign of a rich mixture. Old fuel would more likely cause it to run lean not rich because when the fuel is exposed with a leak the methanol evaporates and water gets in causing a lean run.

however i would replace the glow plug first.....if it helps that's part of your problem.... if not your mixtures are not correct (idle most likely too rich)
