Default OS VALVE SPRING WORK IN MAGNUM MOTOR???

Maybe Bax or someone can answer this question. I have a Magnum 91 RFS that I bought from Tower that has a broken intake valve spring. Tower doesn't carry Magnum parts but does carry the spring for OS70/91 four stroke motors. Would the OS valve spring work in the Magnum?

Here is the link to the OS valve that Tower has:

Thanks. Global Hobbies also carries the part. Tower has $1.99 shipping for small parts and that was the reason for the question. Tower is reliable and quick to ship. Just hoped the parts would be interchangeable.

I do hate to pay more for shipping than the parts price.
I had OS and Magnum 91s but never looked at parts for possible interchange.

Can someone explain why Magnum and OS are so close together (identical castings, etc., or so it seems) and yet have such a difference in price? Does OS do more finish work on their engines? If so, what?

Thanks,

Bob

Bob, it's impossible to get an answer that is not opinion or speculation. Even our personal experience is usually tied to a pretty small sample size.

One theory is that Sanye (manufacturer of ASP, Magnum, etc) essentially stole it at build clones of the OS designs using cheap materials, cheap labor, and little quality control.
Another theory is that OS is price gouging based on name recognition.
Reality is most likely some combination of these.

I think OS machine work and quality control is better than Magnum, at least in the four stroke carburetors. My experience is that Magnum four strokes have more "touchy" needles than OS. Different threads, different taper? Some of my Magnums can go from too rich to too lean with one click of the needle while my OS have a broader range of adjustment.

I used to think the low price of Magnum four strokes was worth it... Today I would buy one OS or Saito for $400 before I would buy two Magnums for $200 each.

I will say that my ASP 61 two stroke is one of the nicest running two strokes I have ever seen, especially running at low to medium throttle settings.

I'm not sure on the 91 but on the 70 there was a recall on some magnum 70 engines that got the wrong valve springs installed and Global was making good on it but a lot of people didn't want to send in there engine and installed OS 70 springs with good results. I have one of those Magnum 70 engines and just was getting out of the hobby and never got around to sending it in, Well I'll be ordering some OS springs when I pull that engine out of moth balls.
