You are correct it wasn't a four stroke. I think out of all the glow engines the four stroke has the best sound. The four stroke Saitios have that "gasser" sound

This is good to know, but for how little I use I can't justify spending $60 on a gallon of oil. If I were to do that I'd be using Motul Micro or Aerosave/Aerosynth at $75/gallon. Castor works just fine in my four strokes; the mfg. specs castor oil or high quality synthetic blend. I know YS don't like gooey oil, but I don't own any YS engines.

Right now other than on OS32SX in a delta speed plane, all of the glow engines I am now using are YS 4 stroke engines. This is why I would need the synthetic oil.
What is the problem with Klotz KL-200, that you would use another brand of oil?

n They would sell clear Ucon oil about 5 years ago and was said to be the same oil in all of their fuels. It was about $25 a gallon, I guess those colored dyes are expensive.

Nothing wrong with KL-200, except the price. On this site Coolpower oil is only about $30.

http://www.bmikarts.com/Oil-Methanol_c_214.html

Alcohol and gas make a different sound on full scale race cars as well. Alcohol makes the same engine growl with a lower pitch and always sounds better.

When I started using YS for strokes 14 years ago, the Australian YS distributor said if using Klotz, no warranty claims would be honoured.
I've been using Coolpower ever since with no problems whatsoever. Why would I use another brand when I've had no problems.

Just because they said it was the same, doesn't mean it is.

Does anyone know what brand of synthetic oil Morgan, Wildcat, and Cool Power use in their fuel?

So did YS say why they have that stand on KL-200?

Just because they said the green, blue, and purple oils are different means they are. Why is go cart oil cheaper? Its seems to be the same oil, I have used it.

As I understand things, some of the Klotz oils contain a percentage of Castor.

Castor, being gummy, is bad news for the delicate regulator/Non-return valve of some YS engines.

Yes, a mix of castor and synthetic. Which is why I questioned the high price.

Still use several Moki 180's and have a couple still in the box. They run well on FAI fuel and I can make it pretty cheaply.

The sad fact is, in my area, hobby shops are closing. To run glow, I end up driving 1.5 hours round trip to get it. To those that would say mix up my own, I say it's cheaper and easier to mix up some 50:1 gasoline. I have a feeling all glow engines will become an expensive novelty as years go on.

Cool Power sounds awsome when lit of @ 35° BTDC with spark.

At that time the Klotz didn't have the film strength required, which was causing premature camshaft wear.
As I said that was 14 years ago. I don't use Klotz so can't comment
on todays oil. I don't have any problems or unusual wear from using Coolpower.

I mix 1% castor in my YS fuel. It doesn't cause any problems with the reg. The only thing it does, is cause a bit of staining on the engine.

The green coolpower has 18% oil content which is to low for YS for strokes.
The blue is a bit to thick. I started mixing 50% red with 50% blue oil. The purple multi viscosity oil is essentially the same which is what I use now in everything.

Everybody use to call it "Cruel Power". I think it got that name because it didn't have any of the castor in it that most fuel had in the old days.
People didn't know how to adjust their engines properly and burned up a few because of the lack of castor that was saving their butt before 100% synthetic.

What is the mix for FAI fuel and how is it different from Moki fuel?

FAI fuel is 80% methanol, 20% oil ( originally Castor Oil ). Not sure how they class it now.

You don't need castor in 2 stroke engines.I have been using cool power for 12 yrs never had an issue using in abn engines, abc, and ringed. If you have a problem tuning your engine then get someone who can teach you to set up properly. If you are using castor and synthetic blend you will still cook an engine eventually if not tuned properly.Pros and everyday flyers have been using cool power for years with great success.Synthetic is the way to go keeps the engine running at optimum performance ,keeps the engine clean and you won't have to clean that old sticky gummy castor off your plane. If you are using older engines from yesteryear yes continue to use castor if newer engines go with synthetic you'll be a much happier pilot .

Engines are engines. Some castor blended with synthetics still provide better protection than anything else. There's no way around the fact that synthetics protect only to a certain temp, and then turn to ash. And, operator tuning isn't the only thing that will cause an engine to start running lean and hot.

No, the 4-strokes have the 4-stroke sound as the full scale 4-stroke engines.

"Gassers" have a 2-stroke sound like weed eaters.
