Default Smallest glow engine carbureted

Hello guys

I'm looking to know which is the smallest carbureted glow engine. I'll do a project that needs the smallest possible glow engine but I need to control it with a throotle servo. I found the cox baby bees but it does not have carb.

Is there anything like what I'm looking for?

Thanks for any input

The smallest that is still being made would be the Norvel .049 engine, now marketed under the NV label. They also have a throttled .061 engine but both of these mainly like small props and revs at +20000rpm. So their .074 RC is much more useful as it can take 6x4-7x3 props.

There are/were smaller ones, like the G-Mark .030 engine, but it is not made anymore.

Another good one is the MP-Jet .061 engine. It has double ball bearings and a twin needle carb.

There was a Cox .020 Pee Wee with exhaust throttle sleeve. It occasionally comes up in E-Bay, but tends to be pricey, for collectors. Since you're looking at Cox Babe Bees, have you considered the Cox .049 Sure Start with throttle?

http://coxengines.ca/r-c-engines/

They show 4 glow engines and 1 diesel engine starting at $45 US. Here is an example:

The Sure Starts have the power of a Babe Bee and require an external tank.

Probably the smallest throttled engine is the Cox Tee Dee .010 using a exhaust throttle sleeve. I don't think that the owner designer persued it very far than other for his own use though. Below .049 the throttles become more and more superfluous as the propeller becomes less and less efficient. So that anything less than full throttle doesn't have much thrust for flying.

You can still find Cox .020 engines with the exhaust throttle sleeves and the sleeves separately too.

For the Cox .049 they do make a small carburetor throttle for them. Cox in Canada is selling them too.

I saw a Jet .010 a guy had. It was one of 4 built for University contracts. I think the guy sent his back to Jet over my protests. I have a blurry picture somewhere of it.

I think Brodak is still making an .049 RC engine, but I have no experience with it. http://brodak.com/rc-engines/brodak-...rc-engine.html

The Brodak .049 ones are a bit feeble in terms of power, part of that comes from using a regular glow plug I guess.
I was planning on making a head for it that would take a Turbo plug, but I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble. It also lacks a muffler and low end compensation on the carb, so there are many things that to be worked on...

If you don't mind running model diesel engines, they now have the PAL LOLA .020 engine available.

.3cc or .020 cu in displacement. It happens to come with a throttle so you can throttle it then.
The engine is made from the collaboration of a number of great modelers machinists too. They didn't skimp on materials or quality.

That's a really nice engine, earlwb. Somewhat pricey at $201 US shipping included, a little much for my tastes but might suit others. A little larger at .049 is Cox International of Canada's Cox .049 RC Diesel Engine for $70 US:

Yes that is true. I still have a bunch of Cox engines myself too. All kinds for that matter. From the little .010 on up. The .049's are pretty ubiquitous and much cheaper of course. But since the OP was looking for the smallest engine with the throttle, the LOLA may be a candidate then. The throttle might be useable on some other little engine too.

The Norvel and Wasps are the most useful and available. The case difference between the .049 and .061 is negligible so the .061 is the one to use. The power difference is worth it. 6x4, 25% nitro, break them in as the directions say, they'll run great and are easy to start with an electric starter.
