glow fuel proof polyurethane finishes
#26
Minwax Polycrylic is AFAIK a Polyurethane Acrylic hybrid if you will. It has both resins in it I believe. One of the commercial floor finishes my company sells is based on the same resin technology, but incorporates an Isocyanite catalyst/crosslinker/hardener. It's one of the hardest floor finishes on the market.

Years ago, when I first started to read about polycrylic finishes for use on models, commercial floor finishes were what was being discussed. The suubject may be worth revisiting.

A painter for 30 years-high volume NY ,RC two stroke glo - for 23 years --more than most
Rustoleum Gloss white and black For paint
poly - the higher the gloss level the more durability it will have
More coats the better - 3 minimum
The very best varnish i have ever used is - Spar varnish ,extremely durable ,wears like nails ,but never uaed it for glo fuel
My very favorite : is clear dope ,it is ---lighter --than other fuel proof products and --dries the fastest
i have often quickly coated an area knowing it would be dry before i get to the field
A good tip is to ---use clear dope on the seams of Ultracoat and around your decals ( that you want to stay put ) ,you will not see the clear coating at all
Give special attention to the areas just behind the muffler were the hot glo fuels oil is looking to damage the balsa by seeping into it and making the wood soft
In those areas i use the clear dope Under and on Top of the Ultracoat
Ultracoat will adhere to the dope with no problem
Sig buyterate is my choice in todays market
The stuff goes a long way
Two coats should be what you need ,to protect to 20% fuel
i have been building models and using clear dope since the mid 1950 's ,when silk and dope was the wing covering of choice ,for strenght
I always wipe down my aircraft very quickly as a given rule ,with a spray cleaner ,just a good idea with glo fuel
